TruePower 550 Fan only lines?

Seems like the Fan only line on this thing isn't sending enough power to fully power the fans.
Anybody know what the deal is?

Thanks

Its normal as a feature of Antec's low-noise technology; the fans spin intermittenly until the heat in the case (really just the PSU housing since the diode is in there) builds up enough to the point they ramp up in speed. I don't use the fan only headers for this reason. I'd rather not wait for the inside of my PSU to get hot enough to turn on my case fans, as my OC'd PC could easily become unstable and crash way before that point. I think there is a way to mod the fan only headers so the fans spin faster, but I believe this also causes your PSU fans to blast full throttle.

The fan only connectors do no turn the case fans on and off. Like the PS internal fans, it varies the speed of the case fans depending on temp. The fans are always spinning.

This is true, but it doesn't drive them nearly enough IMHO. Maybe if they were all high speed fans this would work a whole lot better, but the stock case fans I have are too weak to be driven this slow....a shame they don't let you switch the power driver between low-med-high speed fans.

I might replace one of the fans with a high speed one and see how well it works.

It doesn't completely turn them off and on, but they will come to a complete stop intermittenly. Its a bit disconcerting, which is why I abandoned using them. I thought it might be my PSU, but I did some googling and found a few reviewers noticed the same thing. Picked up a Sunbeam rheo and fan speed and case temps haven't been a prob since.

That's a neat feature I'd actually like to have. Are Antec's TruePower line of PS' the only ones that have it?
