George Phillips of Meridian, Mississippi was going up to bed when his wife told him that he'd left the light on in the garden shed, which she could see from the bedroom window. George opened the back door to go turn off the light but saw that there were people in the shed stealing things.

He phoned the police, who asked "Does someone live in your shed?" and he said no. Then
they said that all patrols were busy, and that he should simply lock his door and an officer would be along when available. George said, "Okay," hung up, counted to 30, and phoned the police again.

"Hello I just called you a few seconds ago because there were people in my shed. Well, you don't have to worry about them now, cause I've just shot them all." Then he hung up.
Within five minutes three police cars, an Armed Response unit, and an ambulance showed up at the Phillips residence. Of course, the police caught the burglars red-handed.

One of the Policemen said to George: "I thought you said that you'd shot them?" George said, "I thought you said there was nobody available?"

I'd say response time for the emergency services vary in Los Angeles, I remember once calling for the fire department one time and they took more than an hour to get to my house. By then, my neighbors and I had already put out the fire. Then again, my friend who lived in South Central Los Angeles said her friend was shot and it took an ambulance more than 45 minutes to get there. Terrible services in LA. So maybe saying you shot someone doesn't work in LA?

i think it was a very similar joke in the joke thread- about the son in jail and his father who wanted to plant the field.

I work graveyard night shifts in downtown LA (Produce District). One of our salesman ran over a bum lying down in the street. 4 911 calls were made (salesman, security guard, manager, passerby), the paramedics arrived in 30 minutes. After 90 minutes of waiting for LAPD, the salesman went with the manger, who had been in his own car gehind the salesman when the accident happened, to the police station to fill out a report. They told him he was lucky they're not arresting him for leaving the scene of an injury accident.

Makes me glad I live in a small town now :p
I went to the police station after 5PM to get my fix-it ticket signed, and they told me they'd send someone out to sign it for me. I think I had to wait all of three minutes.
Of course, it only took me about five minutes from the time I stepped into the DMV to get my car registered as well.
