True or False?

If you lose your job, your life requires you to find a replacement job immediately. Thus, you’re completely dependent on your current job.

True or False?

False, I live at home (i'm only 20) and my expenses are minimal.

Would I want to find one immediately? Sure I like having extra $, but I wouldn't NEED to find one.

my lifestyle requires having a job.

that's not to say that I couldn't get myself arrested or pack up my tent and spend the rest of my life camping out in the middle of nowhere and hunting/fishing to survive, but it's not something I'd chose to do.

but I've also got enough in my savings account that I would be fine for at least 6 months with no other income (not depending on unemployment, though I'd certainly collect to make my savings last longer if possible). in a worst-case scenario, I've also got plenty of friends and family members who I'm sure would let me couch surf.

False.

I think that you would be smart to find a replacement job as soon as possible, but the state of your savings can determine just how much time you can spend doing that. Knowing that you have a few months of savings also has bearing on your dependency on your current job because it increases the time you can hold out for another equivalent or better job should you need to find one.

Eventually you'll probably need a job, but the "immediately" part of the question makes it false for many people.

Eventually, yes. Would I need to "immediately"? No. Do I take pride in not ever taking government handouts? Yes. Would I if my family needed to eat? Yes.

False. I'm 25 with a fiancee. If both of us lost our jobs we would have the mortgage paid through December already. Taxes are taken care of in the escrow account. I have a 6-month "just in case" savings that I will never touch, and we have plenty more savings that although might have been intended for spending at a later date (renovations, new car), they would be able to be used.

Would I need a new job eventually? Yes. I would want one asap so I don't have to touch savings. Hell, if I wanted I could milk it without a job for as long as possible.

Do I NEED a new job immediately? FALSE.

Depends on how you define "job" and "life".

False. I would hate having to raid my savings. But that is what it is for, after all.

Would be fine for ~7 years if I really cut back. More if I sold the house.

Would suck ass though because it would kill my dream to "retire" at age 50.
