And is even that necessary? In XP at least, you can pin whatever most-used-favourite-loved programs you want to the Start Menu under Internet and Email. My desktop usually only has the trash bin on it.Originally posted by: KoolDrew

Ditto. It may get a little annoying trying to find some applications. I only keep my most frequently used applications on my desktop.

RAM (usage)? Depends on what apps are actually running and taking up memory.
Startup (times)? Depends on what you have in the Startup folder and/or Run registry list.
