TRUE 1366 backplate mod for more pressure

My TRUE came in and the bosses are quite long on the backplate. There is a good 3mm sticking above the motherboard pcb! If these are trimmed down so they are flush the screws get driven down with considerably more force. Has anyone attempted this (or other mods like the washer mod) to increase pressure and did your temps drop as a result?

Just curious BEFORE the thing gets mounted in the box! 🙂

I used the washer trick on my old machine...I don't remember any significant drops in temp, but the sink was rock solid. I would also sugges you do this first...once you cut the backplate...it's all over if it doesn't work.

Why would it be all over? It would just allow the screws to be tightened further without bottoming out. The biggest risk is removing too much material where the screw starts mashing into the pcb OR un even cuts resulting in uneven pressure. You're right though in the washer mod is probably safer/easier for the novice.

what I meant was that you could never return it to the "default" tension. If the screws did not have enough tension on them, they could loosen over time.
