I've already done everything I could, I even looked into dialup internet at one point, but turns out it's not actually cheaper. The lowest tier fibre plan is the cheapest. There is nowhere else left to cut. Trust me, I've checked all that. Even reduced my insurance to bare minimum coverage.

Sure I buy a few things to splurge once in a while, but that's rare and is a small amount compared to all the bills that come out. I have it all laid out in a spreadsheet, my bills come up to about 3k/mo, that leaves under 1k left per month, lot of stuff is not accounted for into the spreadsheet as they are not a fixed number, like groceries or gas for the vehicle.

You guys are sounding like Chrystia Freeland. "Just cancel Disney+" Yeah none of that makes a difference in the grand scheme of things when they are constantly squeezing us more and more every year.

I pay more income tax than your gross income. Stop complaining about your taxes and live within your means.

I can't afford to buy a off grid property, I don't see how you can.

Like I said, there is no where else to cut. I've already cut everything I could. I can't just make my bills cheaper, they keep going up each year. I've seen you post your credit card spending, you could afford an off grid property within a year if you did not spend that much on your credit card.

If I could actually cut 10% of my costs why would I not have already done it? If I could give myself more disposable income I would have done it a long time ago.

I never said I don't get paid enough. In fact I make good money. The real issue is the rising costs of living and our current government that has greatly contributed to it. I should be rich right now given the money I make, but yet I'm just scraping by. Lots of people have to work 2-3 jobs now just to get by, because the costs of living are too high. THAT is what the issue is. The costs of living. We basically have to work harder and longer just to maintain the same standard of living.

The land is not costing me anything, that was a one time cost. In the long run once I move there I will be able to eliminate all the bills that come with living in town and actually have more money to myself. There is just lot of work that needs to go into it first.

Again, there is nowhere to cut and nothing to sacrifice, I visit that all the time, sometimes I can save 10 bucks by switching insurance or internet providers or whatever, but in grand scheme of things there is really not much to cut. Save 10 bucks here, only to see another bill go up by 20 bucks somewhere else. It's a loosing battle. There is nothing to sacrifice, unless I sacrifice having a house and that is not something I should be required to do and just shows how shitty the economy is, if that's what we're expected to do. Renting is also not that much cheaper. Downsizing also doesn't change much, I looked at trailer parks, it's just as expensive as a house now. And you have to pay park fees on top of it. The only logical move is to move off grid where I can eliminate all these bills, and that's a long term plan. It will just take lot of work up front.

~5.6% of employed Canadians (~1.1 million) are working multiple jobs. It certainly sounds like a large, raw number, but as a percent of the working population, it's not "lots". (source: https://www150.statcan.gc.ca/n1/pub/14-28-0001/2024001/article/00002-eng.htm )

The land is costing you: it's opportunity cost. You could have spent the money on something else, such as investing in the stock market.

Moving "off grid" or living in the middle of nowhere is generally expensive. Trucking in goods and services for fewer people per capita is not cheaper than doing it for denser areas. And buying useless shit you don't need certainly contributes to your feelings of being pinched.

As a side note, it's amazing how people living in some of the most prosperous times in history in developed countries think their standard of living is somehow slipping compared to generations past. Just total brain rot.

Don't need a machine, just go back to early 2000's or even 2010 era. Life was way more affordable back then. Bills were cheaper, houses were cheaper, gas was cheaper, groceries were cheaper etc.

This is US-specific, but I feel like that a big issue for people that feel like the latter has happened, it's because they didn't use the good job market to find a better position. The best pay raises often come from moving companies.

Even if you manage to get promoted over the years and make more money, it just places you in a higher tax bracket so whatever money extra you're making is much smaller and in the end it's mostly just a wash. Still means less disposable income if everything costs more and you're only making a tiny bit more. Unless you end up in a super high end position making high 6 figures, but it also means working 80+ hour weeks at a very stressful job. The days of working a regular working class job, and having lot of extra money, are over.

The Canadian federal tax rate has not changed for people in Red's income bracket since 2001. Before that, they were higher. For people making twice what Red makes, the rate went up in 2016. Red is white knighting the rich at his own expense.

Edit: I missed one change: in 2016, Red's rate went down. So, since Justin Trudeau became Prime Minister, Red's tax rate has been lower than it was prior to Trudeau's term. His rate was higher under Harper. Say it again: Red's tax rate was higher under Harper than Trudeau.

1. That's not how tax brackets work.
2. Your issue is one of productivity gains not showing up in wages. So you either have to skill up or push for better pay in your current position.
3. Voting for conservative business friendly politicians is NOT going to do a fucking thing to fix #2.
