Troubleshooting sound problem

Hi,

I've got an issue with my receiver. Basically I have a 5.1 system with an Onkyo receiver and a 12" subwoofer. This is hooked up to my HTPC via HDMI cable. Everything was working fine for the last 6 months. I built some built ins(shelves) and moved the receiver up to the top shelf and ever since then I don't get any bass from the sub. I checked the cables and the sub out line is plugged in but nada. If I touch the sub out line with my finger I get a loud sound from the sub so I know it is working. Is there another way to test the receiver for bass output? Could it have anything to do with the hdmi cable from the pc? All other speakers are working as expected.

Thanks,
DBailey

First, run Odyssey to make sure you get sound out to the sub, then make sure your main speakers are set to small and your subwoofer is enabled in the receiver setting.

Also you receiver model number would be helpful.

Thanks for the reply.. I don't remember the model number(i'm at work and can't check).. it is one with 7.1 surround and 5 hdmi inputs I believe. I got it refurbished about 16 months ago for around $300 from Onkyo. I can dig up the manual when I get home and try the Odyssey suggestion.

Found the issue.. user error.. I couldn't see all that well behind the receiver... I had the sub plugged into a line out instead of sub out.
