troubleshooting connection issues

I just added an ssd, formatted my old 1 TB hdd, and installed a fresh Windows 7 on the ssd.

Now, the internet doesn't work. The network adapter seems to be functioning okay, and it is enabled. I've gone through Windows troubleshooting, and I keep getting this error:

"Local Area Connection 2" doesn't have a valid IP configuration.

Any ideas?

I've also installed new drivers for the chipset, network adapter, sata, audio, etc. I've uninstalled / reinstalled the Marvell network driver several times.

I don't think it's an issue with my router (linksys ea6700) or modem (Motorola surfboard). I called my ISP (cox) and everything looks okay from their end. The wireless devices on the network are working just fine.

I've tried ipconfig /release and ipconfig /renew. I get an error after the /renew command.

Firewall is disabled.

I'm running out of ideas...

I tried resetting the tcp/icp stack, but that didn't work.

I get the following error when trying to perform ipconfig /renew:

An error occurred while renewing interface Local Area Connection 2: unable to contact your dhcp server. Request has timed out. No operation can be performed on Local Area Connection while it has it's media disconnected.

It is a desktop with wired Ethernet. I have been using the onboard network adapter on my evga p55 motherboard. I haven't had any issues over the last four years. The issues started after I reloaded Windows 7.
I purchased an Intel pci-e gigabit network card. It should arrive today... if the onboard NIC failed, will the new network card solve that issue?

If the onboard NIC simply died, then yes, an add-on NIC should fix the problem.

It seems curious that the problem happened when you reloaded 7 though. That makes it sound like a software problem, or perhaps just coincidence.

Does the Device Manger shows a valid error free Wireless adapter.

Did you install the Cards Drivers only without a 3rd party Manger?

😎

Yes, the wired onboard network did show up as valid with no errors.

I installed two versions of the Marvell driver.

Thanks for the tips, but none of them worked...

Problem solved with a $27 pci-e network card.

Is your DHCP server working? Try rebooting your router, among other things.

If you click on the adapter in the network properties, what is it showing? Is it showing any successful packets received and sent? If it is showing as connected and packets sent AND received, it is deffinitely connection to whatever you have it plugged in to and I'd move on to troubleshooting your router.

Try rebooting it, if that doesn't work, try resetting it.
