Troubles connecting ibook to linksys wireless router

I just purchased a Linksys WRK54G wireless router last night. My HP laptop is connected just fine with the wireless card, but I cannot get the iBook to connect at all with the airport card! I've tried connecting it with encryption turned on and with it completely open. It will connect to the network, but cannot connect to the internet. If I connect it with an ethernet cable, it will connect no problems.

My setup is as follows:

iBook G4 with airport card
Linksys wireless-g broadband router (WRK54G)
Westell DSL modem
Bellsouth DSL
encryption is WEP - 128 hex
mixed network (b & g)

I've tried using DHCP with manual IP, DHCP auto and also manually.

Anyone have any advice? Is there anything I can do to test if my airport card is actually working properly?

Mine have always worked just fine without any issues.

Does it connect? If it's set to DHCP, does it get an ip address? Default gateway? DNS servers"

Can you ping the router?

no, it will not connect to the internet at all. I can see my network now though. I changed the security to WPA-Preshared, but now I'm not sure which setting to choose when I'm setting up the router in the ibook preferences. I tried WPA Personal, but that doesnt seem to work because I still cannot connect to the internet. I have configured my IP address manually because each time that I choose DHCP it gives me an IP address that is nowhere near what my network is on. also, the subnet mask is completely wrong. where would it be getting this incorrect information from?

edit: when i look at the network diagnostics from Safari, it shows green next to AirPort, AirPort Settings, Network Settings and ISP. Next to Internet and Server is has a red dot and 'Failed' under it.

I dont need to have PPPoE enabled since I have my modem bridged to my router correct?

It's either setting it itself because it can't get a response, or it's picking up a rogue DHCP server somewhere.

If you can ping websites (by which I'm guessing you mean domain names), then you have reached the internet. Try a different browser or something.

In terminal.app (in the Utilities folder in the Applications folder):
traecroute 64.233.161.147

Does it reach the IP?

If so, check to make sure the iBook is getting DNS servers. If it can reach the IP but gets confused about the name, it's a DNS issue.

it seems to reach it no problems... I just found the problem. I wasted yours and my time because i had a wrong number entered into the dns setting. thanks for all the help.
