Trouble with Windows XP Pro, IE and @ATTBI

I looked around in the forum and did not see anyone mention this problem, please forgive me if it was.

I'm having trouble browsing the Internet with my new box. My box runs Windows XP Pro and I'm using ATTBI as my provider (Post-@Home). I can play Internet games just fine, no lag or disconnects; however, when I go into IE to browse the web, I can get to about 3 pages and then I get page errors. The error says it can't find the page and to check your connection. I can immediately start an Internet game and play, but I have to reboot to browse the web again.

I've tried a number of congifurations for the connection within IE, but I can't find the right combination to allow me to keep browsing. I've played with the protocols a little, but I'm not that savy.

Anyone have this problem and fix it? Anyone have an idea how to fix this frustrating problem?

Thanks in advance.

I'm having this exact same problem. I can browse for a few minutes, then all further pages get page errors. I was just going to post and see if anybody else has this problem and has found a fix when I saw this post. I have found that if I open the Local Area Connection Settings, click the Support tab, and then click repair it will allow me to few another few pages and then back to the same page errors. It's quite annoying to have to click the Repair button every 5 minutes.

Hopefully somebody out there has found a fix for this?

I had the same problem. What I did was right click on the network icon on my task bar and click repair and it would solve the problem. But then it would happen again. But today it seems fine, I don't know if they fix the problem. My roomate said that his PC is so slow. He has free AOL trial out installed when we didn't have connection, he said it was faster than cable. We don't know how long are we gonna keep it if it's this slow. Probably not worth it.

We have DSL in our area also, might swith to that instead. I check their web site and it said 1.5 mps downstream. So, it's about the same as cable then.
I don't think we have too many choices here.

We should all call ATT and complain may be they'll do something about it.

The problem still exists. It can be temporarily solved by clicking on the Repair button, but it always comes back. And sometimes the Repair fails, gives and error about not working. When this happens the only solution I have found is to log out of Windows and log back in, or restart. I tried using their online help chat, but as expected it was not very helpful. Even after explaining exactly what was going on the person just tried to tell me to try clearing my temporary files and history and using the repair button. This is really getting to be a pain.

Are there any people out there using ATTBI and Windows XP that are not having this trouble?

EDIT: Oh, and I tried calling also, but apparently they "are unable to help at this time due to the high number of help requests they are getting due to the recent transistion"
In other words, they disabled phone support because they don't really care that we are having troubles. They want us to wait in line for a coulpe hours using their online help chat.

I was able to fix the problem uninstalling the NIC in device manager, reinstall it, and do the connection thing over again, but then finding the DNS servers, and putting them in manually, rather than choosing to find them automatically. I left IP to find automatically.

It hasnt been inconsistent for me since I did this.

I tried reinstalling my NIC and manually setting the DNS servers, but still seem to be having the same problems.

I've had the SAME stupid problem since it started back up last week. I did post something at the time but no one seemed able to help, I thought it was because of the hub I'm running and knowing that ATTBI charges more for another computer I didn't feel like calling and telling on myself.

Regardless its gotten better over time, now I repair a few times a day, the first several days I got maybe one or two pages and then repair. I still have trouble getting pictures downloaded sometimes which is weird.

I'm hoping that the next few weeks will see better service. I'm paid already so no choice really.

Technically according to their web site they don't "support" XP yet. I guess we're all going to have to get used to being patient.

Just finished talking with a tech support person. Hopefully this will solve the problem. This is what he told me to do. Seems to be working so far, but only time will tell if it really helps.

1) Click on Start.
2) Click on Control Panel
3) Double click on Administrative Tools
4) Double Click on Services
5) Find DNS Client on List
6) Right click on DNS client and select DISABLE or STOP

T-Kris R says: that fixes the page not found errors in xp and 2k

So if you are having trouble, give this a try. Hopefully this is the solution we've been looking for.
