Hi
i have an ASUS P5W DH
it has 7.1 onboard sound.
The problem i am having is this;
The program used to change settings to do with my audio is called realtek audio manager. Whenever i plug a jack in the program pops up and asks me which jack i plugged in. green i chose "front speakers" orange "centre/sub" pink "mic in" with black however i had to chose "side speakers" ratehr than "rear speakers" (this is in 6 chanel btw, the only way it lets me select 5.1 is if i use "dolby digital live" and if i do that i get no sound watsoever in any program.) anway once i finished working all this stuff out i did the test where it plays a sound in a cricle around u and it worked fine, sound comes out of each individual speaker like i would expect. However... when i play a game or a movie or music the sound comes out of all speakers regardless of the direction its meant to be comming from, this game counterstrike source even has a audio test thing where it says "front left" "centre" "front right" "rear right" etc etc for 5.1 sound, when it does this i just get it from every speaker as the voice goes through each one." I assume it would work with dolby digital live... the onyl problem is it only allows a certain type of output and i think my headphones/speakers are both 5.1 analog and wont play sounds in dolby digital live.
Is tehre a soloution to this problem? should i still be able to have surround sound with speakers working independantly in 6channel mode? or do i need to use 5.1? (remember when in 5.1 in the realtek audio manager im forced to use dolby digital live = no sound for me) if i need to use dolby digital live is my only option to buy speakers and headphones that will work with "S/PDIF".
I was thinking maybe if i bought a 5.1 soundcard it might do teh trick. assuming that teh reason it wasnt working corectly was because its 7.1 onbaord not 5.1..... but now i think wat should it matter? the only difference between 7.1 and 5.1 is the option for an extra 2 speakers... dont plug them in and ive basically got 5.1 right???
any help would be appreciated, its driving me nuts having spent $150 on headphones and $100 on speakers when i dont even get to experience the surround sound except in teh the audio manager
