Trouble with Radeon 8500 and counter-strike

I installed the radeon 8500 yesterday, and have been having problems getting cs to work. I have the latest drivers from maxreboot, 6.13.3281.
Im running XP, and this is a retail board. I have not installed any ATI software other than the drivers. The problem is hard to explain, when I first ran cs, I got the overflow error, so I installed the HL ati patch. After this, Hl would report that opengl was not suportted by my card. I then installed the C-strike included with the card, and while it worked fine in opengl with truform, it wouldn't connect any server, it would plain stop at the connecting phase. What I want is to play my non retail CS in opengl with truform enabled. I tried copying over the HW.dll file from the truform edition, and all that resulted was curved weapons, and not character models.

Someone please help!

Steve,

Did you do a reformat and install everything before you smacked the card in? Most people seem to be having the best luck with the card if they do a clean install from the ground up.

If you head over to Rage3D... they might be able to help. Only things I can think of, try disabling fast-writes and if you have it set for AGP4... drop it down to 2.

Alot of people are having the same wierd problem. So far the most I can gather is everyone is just blaming XP , Ill let you know if i get CS working.

As of now, the best that I can do is CS in opengl with rounded guns (bad truform).

If I exit the playing screen, even for a second, such as to change my controls, When I get back i get neon colors, or nothing at all. I can hear sounds however. Im pretty sure this is ATI's driver's fault rather thanWindows XP. I should have known what I was getting into.
