You are doing everything right.. There is a problem with the network onboards card and the way its being controlled by the newer drivers of nvidia... I have a n7js chaintech ! I had the original BIOS 11 28 2002 and after upgrading to their 5v i just got the BSOD and never booted.. After repairing xp and installed the 2.03 drivers i thought all seemed fine but the same problem like yours... The card is being recognized BUT it send packets out but not receiving!!!
Even if u were in a DHCP environment it would get an IP but thats all about it at the best case scenario!
I installed the oroginal BIOS and an image of my drive and all was fine!
I tried all kind of combinations but there is a problem with all newer BIOS releases in nforce2 chipset and the net card!
A friend with the ASUS deluxe has the same problen on a brand new just purchased MB card!
I ve written to NVIDIA and CHAINTECH and i m waiting for an answer! It has to do with the BIOS version and drivers! It seemed that Nvidia nforce2 drivers v1 were working better than all the newer ones!
I ll keep you posted.... Let me know if you find anything yourself.. U re not doing anything wrong... I haver to use a second NIC card to use my DSL modem! Go figure... It seems now no matter i do nothing works for the card!
