I am trying the set up my computer with this board.
I only have one HD connect to IDE1 port and a CDRW connect to IDE2 port
but for some reason, at start-up the HD is not being detected as Primary Master,
any idea what might be the cause?
Can anyone please help me out here?

Make sure that there are no jumpers on your drives, or that both drives are jumpered as MASTER. IDE0 is correct for the master on ide1. Also make sure that you are not plugged into the green Promise ATA ports if you are not using them.

Thanks so lot, the problem is solved.
Just have one more question, at initial start up, it takes forever for the auto-detecting process to detect my HD,
and it may fail to detect anything the first time around.
but after I reset the system, the HD is found. What might a cause for that problem?

Hmmm... You are connected to the Intel controllers, right? You have the onboard Promise controllers off? My drive is connected to the Promise controller, with my 2 CD's on the Intel controllers. Mine boots instantly... Make sure you a have the secondary controllers on both the primary and secondary IDE channels set to NONE.

Should I enable Promise ATA, and put my HD on the Green IDE ports as well?

Just wondering, do you have the problem that when you leave the computer on for a long time, SVCHOST.EXE will consume more than 80% of the CPU resource?

update: I figure out my problem. It's because of my stupidity. I put my single HD on master instead of stand alone. Change that solve all the delay problem.
Now I have it running on Promise ATA. Thanks for all your help, Cobrasvt, you are great!
But, I still have that resource problem. Got any advice?

Hi,
I have a question also related to 8ihxp and the wd 80 meg special.
I understand that I need win2k sp3 for windows to work with ATA 100.
Well something is wiping out the "Advanced Settings" under IDE Ata/Atapi controller-Primary IDE properities. I think it is when I update my 8ihxp with the Intel Accelerater and the Gigabyte pci update. How do I know if my HD is running in ATA100 mode for sure?
I have to reinsatll win2k to get the advanced option back and it says current transfer mode "ULTRA DMA MODE" this is without the service pack update, so It must be in ata33 or 66 then update to sp3 so now what how can I tell if its ata100? I haven't updated the to drivers form Giga Byte site again until I can figure what if windows is running ATA100.
Any ideas?

By the way, I think I found the problem with that 80% consumption problem, it is due to that GMT service thing came with Gigabyte drivers.
Now, I just have to figure why is my Service.exe keep on writing to the I/O.

Ok here is what I got. It does boot up to mode 5. I just did a sandra file transfer test and my WD 80g was only 16,776kb. I unistall the Intel Application Accelerator and I get back to window sp3 and do another test and I now get 19.198kb transfer. I now install and connect to the Promise controller and set the bios to enable the Promise ATA retest but no change in transfer rate still 19kbs. This is very disapointing. I should be at 30kbs. Does anyone have any benchmarks on their HDs. Or is there someother setup that I have to do?

I did not install the GMT accessory thing with my system. That may be why I have never encountered the problem with SVCHOST consuming my resources.

All in all, these boards are kick ass! I love my 8IHXP2!

I have the same board with a Maxtor ATA133 80GB under XP Home. It just ran a 14 people LAN party with me playing on it flawlessly. Let me know what you want me to look at, be specific?

forget it... It is a minor problem.. At first I thought it was a memory leak.
Thanks anyhow.
