Hey - I just got a call from my buddy that is trying to set up a Biostar M7VIG Pro. He says that it runs fine for about 2-3 minutes then starts in with an "english police car siren" sound and then shuts off. What is this and how would we fix it?</
Maybe the CPU is overheating. With a time delay of two or three minutes, I'd guess the CPU fan isn't running (unplugged or jammed). That will be easy to check, anyway 🙂
yep, i agree. CPU is overheating. The "english police car siren" is the overtemp alarm. The CPU will power cycle the machine when it overheats. Make sure the HSF is on all the way and clamped down. Did your friend use thermal paste?
Remove the little plastic cover that in on the thermal paste applied to the heatsink....I have seen that one before. Simple thing to forget, but it can fry a chip.
Hey thanks guys! I've never heard the english siren sound on a motherboard myself but sure enough, he put the phone up to it and there it was - eee awww eee awww. I asked him about the fan - whether it was cockeyed or not running. He said it was seated properly and running. Interesting about the plastic cover theory - I wouldn't put it past him to have done something silly like this...I'll check when I get over there this weekend. But it's pretty much agreed that the siren is an overtemp warning? Can this threshold be set in the bios...maybe he just has the temp set too low?
