Trouble with Athlon 1GHz and Asus A7V

Hello,
I recently purchased a 1Ghz Athlon, Asus A7V, and WindowsMe (oem version purchased with the motherboard). I am having a lot of problems setting it up. When trying to install WindowsMe, (at 1Ghz) my system constantly locks up during the early installation process and sometimes I get an error message:
Run-time error R6003 -integer divide by 0.
I have tried replacing my hard drive, HD cable, memory, cd-rom, setting the bios setting for performance to 'Normal'. All those solutions failed. Finally, I changed the cpu frequency to 90mhz, running the cpu, underclocked at 900mhz. At this point, I can get farther into the installation process, but then it would hang when it is detecting plug and play hardware devices, and I would get a BSOD with error message:
ERROR: 0E : 0028 : C00483A2
Is this a bad cpu problem, or a bad motherboard problem?

My system specs (so far):
cpu: Athlon 1ghz socketA, running at 900mhz
m/b: Asus A7V, bios ver. 1004a
cpu fan: Thermaltake 'Silverorb'
ps: Antec 400W
ram: 256mb, Mushkin PC-133, set at 90mhz in bios.
HD: Maxtor 30gb, ata-100
CD: Creative DVD-Rom 6X
video: Hercules 3D Prophet DDR-DVi

Please help.

Try copying the windows installation files to your hard drive. Then disconnect everything except processor, ram, and video. See if this will work. You can then start installing hardware one device at a time.

Several thoughts:

1. When in another post I recommended the A7V to someone with the 1 GHz Tbird, someone commented that there were problems with that combo. They didn't say what those problems were and I didn't find anything conclusive when I made a search for A7V in the forums. Maybe you can find for help a website related to the A7V ???

2. Here's a troubleshooting guide:

3. I would definitely dump that Thermaltake Gorb, Corb, Sorb or whatever they call the latest incarnation of it. Be sure that whatever HSF you use is properly mounted flush on the CPU core. See:

4. Maybe reset the CMOS and BIOS to defaults, per your manual's instructions.

Good luck.
