Trouble with a musical keyboard.

So I purchased a Creative Prodikeys keyboard for my girlfriend, and ran into an issue. The keyboard is a keyboard with a piano attached to the bottom, so you can play the piano into a program to record music notes.

The keyboard is a PS/2 keyboard, but she does not have any connections on her computer. I ended up purchasing a PS/2 to USB converter. Here's the tricky part; the keyboard works, but the program and the keys on the piano do not.

Would the converter be the issue here? I am going to try uninstalling and reinstalling the software, to see if that helps.

Also just to note, I tried updating the driver and it said there were no available updates, so I think it's either a problem with the software or with the PS/2 > USB converter.

Thanks!

UPDATE:

I have uninstalled and reinstalled the software. When I try to run the program it says it cannot find the hardware. I am fairly certain it is the PS/2 to USB converter. Seems odd to me; the keyboard works as a keyboard, but does not detect the piano part.

Any ideas?

does the keyboard have any drivers associated with it? I know that some keyboards need drivers to function as MIDI or anything else. Did you try the keyboard on another computer with ps2?

sorry, im being a little vague. very tired. I'll check back in the morning, see if anything new has posted.

It's been a while since I used a small MIDI keyboard attached to a PC - but it had to have a MIDI converter. The PS/2 - USB converter is probably not geared for that. You may have to add a multi-I/O card which has a real PS/2 port.

It could resolve the USB/PS2 issue. I'm not too sure as to where the MIDI conversion takes place. In order for that music keyboard to work, the scan codes have to trigger a synthesizer of some sort if it is to have musical quality. Maybe it is just beep tones? But - for $9.95 it's worth a shot.

According to the Creative Prodikeys specs, etc., it is supposed to be a direct USB connection.

There is also software that has to be installed for it to work.
