Trouble setting up home network

I was trying to set up a home network today so that I could share a printer, but I seem to have run into some trouble with my pc. When I run the network setup wizard, it gives me two choices for my internet connection: local area connection, and 1394 net connection (for the firewire on my audigy card). I pick the local area connection, but a few steps later on the review screen right before it actually sets things up, it shows 1394 net connection as the connection to the network. It has the local area connection just as the connection to the internet. Does it think I have 2 connections to the network? I selected the option for "I am connected to the internet through a hub" so I am not sure what is going on. Any help would be appreciated.

Stop using the lame network wizard!

How about some information on your configuration, machines, O/S versions, Internet connection, etc. It's pretty hard to diagnose in the dark.

The only reason I used the network setup wizard was because I have used it on other networks successfully.

Both pc's are Windows XP Pro, DSL connection, Linksys BEFSR41 router

Got it. Had to enable NetBIOS on my computer. 😱

if you are running winXP then you do not need to enable netbios. thats just more overhead.

Well, that's one man's opinion, Microsoft doesn't necessarily agree. 🙂

NetBIOS has to be On in WinXP.

The Default is set to get it from the DHCP Server.

However if IPs are manual or DHCP server can not provide it has to be turned On manually.

The gentleman above John probably confuses NetBIOS with NetBEUI
