I just a received an Adaptec AHA 2930CU pci card & a internal scsi cd burner in a trade.the guy I got it from said he had it working in an older Compaq, but had trouble with it when he switched to his P3 win98 system.

I installed it in one of my comps that has win xp home, windows did recognize it & loaded drivers but does show a problem with it in the device manger. The cdrw does not show up at all.

I checked adaptecs site for drivers & it said xp has it covered,I've never used scsi before but what am I missing here?Isn't there suppose to be a scsi bios on boot up? it does come with an EZ-SCSI cd that I did install but I did get an error message during the software install. Also has a couple of floppy disc's one is called Adapt. EZ scsi Deluxe edition V5.0D a win3.1 & dos disc. The other is a 7800 Family Manager Set Lite v3.03.

Thanks,Toro

The drive should be on the end of the cable, set to terminated, and assigned an ID other than 7 (which is for the SCSI card).

The Burner is an older one he thinks it's a Philips, the scsi card was bought new so it had nothing to do with the compaq.seems like the problem is more with the scsi card drivers,I did unplug the burner but still get the problem in the device manger.I have all the driver discs that he had.

mechBgon,it was on the end of the cable & the drive id is set to 4

Thanks Toro :)

I had a Philips burner once. Philips was targeted for a class-action lawsuit over them, you can Google up some more info if you want. Could be the card's fine but the drive's dead or flaky. Does the BIOS find the drive after the POST is completed?

Ok,I got it.I switched the scsi card to another pci slot, the scsi bios option did come up this time, windows detected the card loaded drivers & the burner works fine as well. Thanks for the help.
