trouble recognizing logitech mx510 behind a kvm

I just switched to using a USB-based KVM (each computer only needs 2 cables to connect to the KVM: a USB cable for the keyboard/mouse and a VGA cable for the monitor). The computer now refuses to recognize my Logitech MX510; instead it simply says it's an HID compliant device. WinXP won't let me re-install the drivers either, when I try to do it Windows tells me it can't complete the installation because the driver I chose isn't as good a fit as the one it's currently using. Can anyone offer some advice? Sucks I can't use the extra buttons now 🙁

The KVM is this one

nevermind I think I figured it out: just had to hook up the mouse to one of the shared USB ports rather than the console port. we'll see if/how this works when I hook up more machines
