Hi,
Lately, I am having trouble to read certain files on my hard drive. Here are the situations when I tried to access certain files on the drive:
1. Windows display error message: "Cannot copy MY FILE: Data error (cyclic redundancy check)"
2. Computer crash and automatically reboot
3. Computer crash and display blue screen
So, I downloaded Data Lifeguard Diagnostic for Windows and here is the test result:
Test Option: QUICK TEST
Model Number: WDC WD10EADS-00L5B1
Firmware Number: 01.01A01
Capacity: 1000.20 GB
SMART Status: PASS
Test Result: FAIL
Test Error Code: 06-Quick Test on drive 2 did not complete! Status code = 07 (Failed read test element), Failure Checkpoint = 97 (Unknown Test) SMART self-test did not complete on drive 2!
Test Time: 19:27:15, January 13, 2010
Test Option: EXTENDED TEST
Model Number: WDC WD10EADS-00L5B1
Firmware Number: 01.01A01
Capacity: 1000.20 GB
SMART Status: PASS
Test Result: PASS
Test Time: 21:01:36, January 13, 2010
Is this mean the hard drive is dying? What should I do now? Claim for replacement? Is there anyway to recover unreadable files on the harddrive? Thanks.
