Trouble networking two computers with a router

Hi,

I'm trying to network my stationary and my laptop computers with a Netgear router. Almost everything works well, I get internet connection on both computers via the router, and my stationary computer can access my laptop without trouble. However, my laptop cannot access my stationary computer at all.

Disabling the firewalls doesn't help. I have tried putting another laptop at the stationary's place, which works fine, my laptop can then access the new laptop without problem. So the problem must be in the stationary computer, somehow, I guess. I should add that sending ping commands to the stationary works fine, but the computer doesn't show up in the laptop's "My Network Places". When I click "view workgroup computers" my stationary is shown, but I get an error message when trying to access it. Any idea what's wrong? Thanks a lot in advance.

What OS are you running? Welcome to Microsoft!

If one computer has XP SP2 your not gonna see it unless you disable windows built in firewall. :)

I'm running XP SP2 on both computers, and am having this problem even with the firewalls (both the built in Windows one and my more proper one) turned off. So I don't know where to go from here...

Thanks.

Did you share out the C Drive on both machines?

Or whatever drive it is you want access too? Also, can you ping both machines from each end? If you can ping to the machine and you shared out the drive... Then you should be good to go. You could try start run //machinename or ip addy /c$ see where that get's you.

You may want to setup a local user and password on both machines with the same user and password assigned and place it in the admin group on both machines.

Good Luck! :)

ommm that should be \\ not //
