Here's the sitch.

Installing Vista RC1/2 (tried both) onto clean partition, first primary partition of a two partition drive. Initially it was one of five connected to the system (4 SATA and 1 PATA), however I eventually disconnected all others but the one. First run through in the install with RC2, system reboots in the middle of the install process. After that, make another attempt at installing (formatting partition) which works, however we go through the install process and get to the first reboot, system reboots, and then comes up "Press any key to boot from Cd or DVD" with the elipsis...the elipsis gets to five and the system stops. No OS load of any kind. If you take the Vista install CD out, you get a "No OS found" or a blank screen with a flashing cursor at the top left. Do you have any idea what might be causing this behaviour, and how I might fix it?

I had a problem similar to this with RC1, where it would get to the "preparing to start Windows for the first time" screen, reboot, and tell me to reinstall Vista. It turns out that Vista loads the wrong driver for my wireless card and so it dies. Removing my wireless card for the install did the trick. Try removing some hardware if you have not done so already.

The kicker is, I've had Vista up on this machine already with complete success, and there is no new hardware. I have added nothing since then. I will try this solution, however, and report back.
