I have just finished building my new comp and I'm having trouble installing windows. I'am trying to install Win98 but every time I get almost all the way done, after a reboot I get the message:

While initializing device NDIS:
Windows protection error. You need to restart your computer

I can restart in safe mode but I get a repeat of the same message when I try to start in normal mode.

I believe there is something wrong with my hard drive. I've tried using Western Digital's Data Lifeguard Tools to partition and format my drive several times but I get the same message. Does anyone have any idea what could be wrong? I really want to be able to use my new computer soon.

thx

are you on a 2000 mhz cpu or higher?

if yes you need to get the "fix" as 98 only goes to 2ghz without a workaround

Take this file and copy it into the c:/windows/system directory?Overwrite old one?

but you will need to provide an email address for me to mail it to you

pm me if you need it
