trouble installing lexmark printer under windows XP

i have a Lexmark Z43 printer and im running win XP...i've downloaded the XP drivers from the lexmark website and installed them..but whenever i try to print, it says problem communicating with printer. But when I havent installed the driver yet, windows detects that i have my lexmark printer connected to the computer...by the way, i'm using a parallel cable..any ideas??

What AsusM said should fix it, but I would recommend using the USB port, it prints faster for me. I have a lexmark z53.
 
Lexmark has notoriously bad compatibility. If there suggestions don't work, you may have to edit the registry, removing anything to do with "Lexmark" or "USB", then it should install, but use this only as a last resort.
