Trouble Installing Adaptec 2940uw dual

Trying to install an Adaptec 2940uw dual in a Dell Poweredge 1400sc server. Running Nt 4. Already has imbeded SCSI controller not in use and a PERc 3 controlling my raid 5 array. Need the 2940uw to control my tape backup. Everytime I try installing the card, the computer hangs at reboot. Do not want to reinstall NT 4. How can I get this damn card to be recognized in bios and then in NT?
Thanx!

I would start by reading the manual for the 2940 and specifically the part about what needs to be done when you install multiple of those controllers in the same machine. There is some jumpers that probably need to be set to make it use a different IO address. they can share the same interuppt but not io address ranges. The builtin controller on those servers is an adaptec 29XX type controller.

I worked for weeks trying to figure out how to make an Adaptec 2940UW coexist with a Buslogic controller. It would hang at boot. In my case the answer was to flash the BIOS in the Adaptec to version 1.32. Why this works is a mystery to me.

I used Adaptec's flashing utility for a later version BIOS and used it to capture the BIOS from an old card (ver 1.32) I had laying around. I then did a restore to the card I wanted to use. This put the ver 1.32 BIOS on the target card.
