trouble creating eyefinity display

Midnight

Golden Member
i have a machine with 2x 6870 in xfire.

i have 4 mini displayport to displayport dongles connected.

each graphics card has 2 mini displayport outputs each is connected.

im driving 4x dell u3011.

i cant get 4x screens working with xfire enabled.

if i enable xfire only 2 of the displays work.

if i turn it off all 4 work.

i was trying to create an eyefinity 4 display set up but that doesnt work. i was going to try and get all 4 screens into an eyefinity display with xfire off and then enable it once i got everything working.

any thoughts?

ideally i want to run xfire all the time and run 4x displays. i didnt expect this to be an issue.

i have a fifth display hooked up too its a tv running off hdmi on 1 of the cards.

thanks.

AFAIK, you need to connect all 4 of your display units to a single card.

I am not totally positive about this though.. As I have just run a dual monitor setup.

it isnt going to work with your setup. crossfire means you only use 1 card's worth of video outputs. you would need to buy a pair of 5870 eyefinity 6 cards or the asus 6950 eyefinity6 cards, since they are the only ones with 4+ displayports. the asus is triple slot so i dont know how you would crossfire it.

actually, you could buy a displayport hub to power 3 of the monitors off one dp and direct connect the other monitor to the 2nd dp.

Cant you just connect 2 monitors to the DP outputs and 2 to the DVI outputs? Or do the 6800 series also have 1xDL-DVI and 1xSL-DVI like the 6900 series?
