trouble burning cd

Just got the No One lives Forever Game. I've been trying to copy it to make a back up. (yes the license agreement allows one backup) but can't. I've tried Adaptec easy cd creator and Nero demo version. I've burned it at 1x, 4x, with hd image, ignore illegal TOC, etc... But after Nero says it was burned correctly, the game says it's not the right cd. Any suggestions? Does the retail version of Nero work better? Is there something I have to do with the registry? I've been using TDK 650mb cdr's which have worked flawlessly for me so far.

Thanks

That game uses Safe Disc 2, very difficult to copy successfully, might work with Clone CD. You could simply use a "NO CD" patch to protect your original disc.

hmm.. along the same lines, how is it that some games do not even allow you to create a CD image of them?

I find Copyright Protection Detector 0.6 useful, it finds what copyright protection has been used, and passes the right settings onto clone cd.

Thanks for the info. I'll try clone cd. What is the patch? Is there something with the registry that prevents this?
Has anyone tried Linux Gtoaster? I wonder if the linux version has the problems that the Windose version has? Or in other words, does the built in anti copy protection work in a Linux environment as well?
Thanks again.

Well, I dl'd clone cd. But it won't recognize my burner. Says it's incompatible. I have a Sony Spressa cd-x 100E. Nero does work, but the copy is not true, because the game still asks for the original. I thought all burners were the same except for speed. I guess that's incorrect. Well, anyone have any other suggestions?
Thanks

What's the "no cd" patch?

Thanks for the link. That's a great site. I've always hated having to insert the CD just to play a game. What a nuissance. NOLF now works without the cd. I just can't seem to get Startrek: elite force to run without it.

Read the hardware FAQ to see if your Sony is truly SOL using CloneCD. Sometimes you have to run a particular version and whatnot. However, if your comp says it don't work, it probably don't work.

An alternative solution:

Find someone who has CloneCd and get them to burn it for you. Anyone with most Hp's, Plextors, most Sony's will be able to burn SafeDisc2 protection with CloneCd.

Also try the unofficial CloneCd website "forums" here.

Good luck. BTW, the brand of media does not have anything to do with being able to burn a program or not unless it's a space consideration where a disc may require an 80 min instead of a 74 min disc. It's all software and hardware and target program related.
