I guess this came out? Anyone try it yet? Is it noticeably different from 3? 3 was pretty much the exact same game as 1, which wasn't a bad thing, but I don't need to buy it yet again.

Yes it's the same as 3. Even has same voice acting. They seem to have introduced random advisers (Diablo, hippie, industrialist etc). It seems to also run smoother.

I've been playing it. There are many new buildings. (and they aren't just there for the sake of having more shit to build); they actually change up the gameplay a bit. I think the game feels a little more complete because of this. It seems to open up a lot of new stategic options.

I still feel like this was a cash-grab though. I enjoy the new stuff.. but it's a copy and paste with some added content and the added content is the amount of stuff you use to get in "expansion packs". Young kids probably don't even know what those are these days.

So, I conclude that it's an expansion pack disguised as a new game. Regardless, I'm still having fun and not regretting buying it.

EDIT: As a side note, I should mention that you have to make an account and log in each time you play the game. I have not noticed an 'offline mode'. So it's possible that you won't be able to play it without the internet.

I dunno in playing the demo it sounded like El Presidente voice had changed a bit and I didn't hear Juanito on the radio. The addition of the advisers and missions is awesome and the different voice acting with that is superb.

I noticed more buildings, you can do some import/export a bit. The missions are a nice touch and adds some variety.

I'm buying it, but not now at its current price.

Heres my take on it.

Pros:
- Pretty much the same as tropico 3

- Dosent crash as often as tropico 3 or have that weird save bug they never fixed

- New buildings

- Islands 4 times larger

Cons:
- Pretty much the same as tropico 3, tropico 3 was awesome but there isnt much new here its just tropico 3 refined a little

- Only 1200 population limit whereas tropico 3 + AP had 2000, wtf islands are 4 times larger but the pop cap is smaller? Crazy

- Road limits still the same

- Pretty much no additional gameplay additions, the ministers thing thats mentioned in the features is shallow and just acts as a wall to issuing certain edicts early, have to have combat minister to issue military modernization for example

- No mod tools released by developer so according to people who know about modding the population caps and road limits will be difficult to modify

Overall its a disappointment, i play this game as a builder, i spent most of my time in tropico 3 with a sandbox island. Campaign was nice enough but i want to build stuff and the lack of new additions alone is pretty lame but the artificial caps and limits they have just ruins the game for me.

thanks for the thoughts everyone. sounding like a probable buy for me once the price drops (and I have time to play it), but it's too bad they're not expanding gameplay at all.

that's weird about the population cap. I mostly played 3 as a sandbox builder too, I didn't concentrate on the campaign thing much.

I haven't played Tropico since 1 so I picked up 3.

It's a lot of fun. :)

Did they ever fix the tourist bug in 3? The one where the tourists only went to the highest rated attraction and ignored all the others?

I just finished a game where I focused on tourism for my economy and never had this problem. Balancing wages with charge rate was difficult.

I like to turn rebelions all the way up so I have constant riots and fights, world economy all the way down and tourisim about center so that I have to micro-manage everything. Otherwise the game gets boring for me.
