Glad to see someone bringing the game back.
It was and is one of my favorite strategy games.

Publisher Kalypso Media announced earlier today that Bulgarian studio Haemimont Games will be developing Tropico 3, a PC sequel to the Caribbean-themed construction and management simulator.

Kalypso acquired the rights to the series from Take-Two, and is now positioning the project for a summer 2009 release.

The team notes that the game will be based on the original Tropico, and is promising "state-of-the-art graphics, complex gameplay similar to the other titles in the series and a comprehensive multiplayer mode."

"The Tropico series is a great IP which we are excited to continue," said Kalypso Media's managing director Simon Hellwig.

I remember Tropico as interesting, but it never really held my interest, but I only played the demo. Kalypso published Imperium Romanum though, so there hope. Looking forward to it.

I really liked it. It was one of the games I owned that only kept me playing for about a week, but I'd go back to it every 6 months for another dose. Lots of fun trying to make a popular revolt!

The too bad part is the people would almost never revolt if they'd LOSE. I wanted my soldiers to gun them all down!!!

They should make it more adult though, let us raise crops of 'poppy' for export. :p

Ive played the demo, i quite liked it. The demo itsself pissed me off because as soon as i exported 10000 banannas or 5000 iron the mission ended and the option to continue playing was greyed out :frown: Suppose thats a good sign though! I wanted to keep playing :) Anyone else like the demo? I never played the first two games for the record.

as soon as the mission completion screen comes up, save the game. then load that savegame and you can play forever.

btw, the game has been delayed once more and US release is oct. 20 (xbox version is feb. 2010). steam is already pre-selling it for a small discount.

What's with the delay? The demo was great I want to buy it already!

BTW, you can add in some of the buildings not available to you in the demo by binding them to keys in the options menu. Some are missing textures though.

I definitely think I'm getting this. They don't make enough games like this. It's nice to have a game without zombies and dragons in it.

meh, i didn't like it that much. it's almost the identical game to the original tropico so i guess the die hards will like it but i thought it was too similar. among the changes, el prez avatar is ok, but stupid roads and garages make me stay away from the game. i was going to get the game, but i don't think i will now. plus you can't even bulldoze trees.

So how's everyone liking it? I just started playing it about an hour ago. I'm doing horribly, it's 1952 and I have -$11,000. :p

I need the Obama cheat. ;)

Played the Steam demo, bought it on Impulse. :p

It is just addicting. It gives you various challenges and lots of options on how you want to go. It also allows for lots of interesting things, one such thing I want to try is to have the USA (they always seem to hate me) invade and see if I can defend myself (still fuzzy on how the military works).

I really, really like it. But every time I play, I lose 4-5 hours of my day, and don't even realize it. ;)

Heh, yeah, it's addictive. I do the same thing with SimCity.

My stupid people built shacks on top of unreachable (by anyone but them) plateaus. Now they're pissed that they don't have jobs, food, medicine, etc. I think they all became rebels.

I need an airstrike.

Can you hunt down Bokonon in the game? It should at least keep the unemployed downtrodden villagers happy.

what i really want is a sequel to tropico 2: pirate's cove. i know i'm in the minority, but that was one of my favorite games of all time. love the pirates theme, and the fact you can take ships out for missions. to me, it was a much more interesting game than tropico 1.

sorta tempted to buy tropico 3 steam special edition during the $20 sale.

have they done anything with roads, garages, and that absurdly huge newspaper building? i couldn't stand those things from the demo and it prevented me from buying the game. if they did something about these things, it might be time to make the plunge now.
