Yes I will state that I am offended by that. However, this is not why I bring it up.

His statement has absolutely no relevance to the discussion or topic at all. I would argue it is a troll post, because I can't see it having any other purpose (unless anyone could explain and convince me otherwise, and I'm open for that).
It isn't like many other cases where two people will argue and eventually descend into name calling. Atleast those people had some form of substance earlier in the thread.

I know that P&N is more 'wild' than other places, and because of the debates that go on, things are looked the other at times. But there has to be SOME kind of standard that is applied...and a clear, pure troll comment should fit that because it isn't "muddy waters".

I don't see anything against the rules with his post.

It seems to be relevant to me :X as those people died because of a rumor; the burning of the Quran. Those people would more than likely still be alive if that rumor didn't happen.
Then again I don't post it P&N but his comment looks fine IMO.

um yeah, we've got people over there that have called for the outright elimination of entire swaths of human being, some of whom have more than one line below there user ID.

Add onto that, the comment would be at most seen as anti-religious which is still at an all high as a favorite AT banner position, so not gonna see much help on that angle either.

Would be nice to see rules more inline with AT applied there. The bullshit and random jabs is just tiring and is really spread across all threads.

I for one don't really care about insults, but there are several members there who are absolutely, indisputably doing nothing but trolling. All they do is make that place worse, and that's not easily done.

Learn how to communicate appropriately. This comment is certainly not within the standards of acceptable posts for this forum. I question whether it is acceptable for P&N as well, but thankfully I am not one of the moderators who set the standards in that forum.

Do not use this kind of language or attacking manner in the PFI again.

P&N is not kindergarden. Its a place specifically set aside for folks to express opinions about matters that are often ugly and challanging to deal with. Tech boy didnt make a personal attack on another Anandtech member, he simply stated his opinion on a religious matter. His opinion was silly and stupid, yes, but thats his right. As dumb as his statement was it should be easily ignored since he cant be taken seriously.
And if you are deeply religous you better learn how to deal with other peoples angry, outrageous opinions, or else you are in serious trouble in P&N.

As for the "not relevant" argument: Its P&N, and everything that isnt an outright flame is considered relevant. Because to declare something you dont like as "not relevant" and therefore shouldnt be said, is a mild way of squashing someones opinion, and we dont do that here. Also, he was talking about the Quran in a thread discussing issues between Christians and Muslims, so even if his comment is stupid, its still relevant.
There is no requirement that all posts in P&N have to be thoughtful, well-layed-out arguments with lots of supporting data. Otherwise the place would not exist. And if the mods start deciding which posts are "worthy" of P&N, this place would be a total nightmare.

Okay thank you there. I agree entirely with your comments. We can go back and forth about this specific instance, but in the end I'm not concerned with the details as much as the big picture.
I care about the insults only so far as it makes it a drag to search for real discussions. If I wanted to see total bullshit in posts, I'd go join a nef fest in ATOT.

Honestly, I think If his comment had been in full-blown support of islam, he would have had everyone tear him a new one. but hey, being a rabid atheist is totally cool, right? P&N is a total circlejerk 90% of the time.
