Trojan residing in jpg files

I was checking some old backups and Antivir found TR/Spy.Banker.vk.1 - Trojan in several image files, I didn't find much info about it but it seems to be somewhat old (no mention if Vista, which I'm running, is affected). I'm guessing the only way for it to execute is to load it with a browser (I.E?) so I was thinking of opening the files with a graphics program and save them in another format to get rid of the trojan, because I really want to keep them and antivir doesn't have an option to clean them, perhaps do it in a VM for added security.

Do you think it's safe to do this?

Best bet is do this in a VM, if you can get the image to display, just print screen it or copy it into a brand new image then resave. Don't just do save as, though that probablly WOULD do the trick but you know, just to be extra safe. 😛
