Trisomy 21

Are there any distributed computing projects that are trying to find a cure or at least an understanding of Chromosomal diseases like Trisomy 21, 18, or 15?

In case any of you are wondering Trisomy 21 is Downs Syndrome which is what my soon to be born baby girl has. We are currently at week 19 hoping that there are no other problems like Aqueductal Stenosis or Agenisis of the Corpus Collosum. Both of which were initially diagnosed in the 17 week ultrasound, but not confirmed. If there was a distributed computing project that was working on understanding Chromosomal disorders I could justify creating a duel quad core system in dedication to my daughter.

Pantobo, I personally do not know of a DC project that tackles this dilemma. If you take a look at the second topic here, you'll see a pretty comprehensive list of nearly every project. Most detail what they are working on, or at least give you a head start. In addition, many projects (especially the human sciences ones) change focus often or expand their searches.

The Genome Comparison project within the World Community Grid is involved in organizing genome attributes into a standardized nomenclature to facilitate scientists' searches for genomes with similar attributes. The project also double checks the data to make sure they are current and complete.

This will be an invaluable resource for all biologists.

I have decided to go with F@H for now. Actually I have been part of TA since 1999 but have been on a bit of a hiatus (about 6 months or so) and when I came back I had forgotten my password and my email address had changed. My original name on the forum was Twioz, so that is what I am cracking under.
As far as my expanding family goes, we are not out of danger yet. Although my daughter has been diagnosed with Down's Syndrome, that is not the worst of my worries. The Perintologist also believes she may have Aqueductal Stenosis and Agenisis of the Corpus Collosum.
Its amazing how quickly life can change...
