I got a D3100 and a used Nikon ED AF-S 80-200mm lens. I am going to be using it for video and am concerned about tripod mounting the camera with this huge lens hanging off the end. I was wondering if someone could direct me to a tripod mount that I could attach to this lense. It looks like the lens has a groove towards the back that was designed for such a purpose. Maybe it originally came with one, but since I got it used who knows.

If it is not a VR lens, it will shake. Get anything that will be good for video panning.

Groove - are you talking about the spot where bracket mounts? If so, you do need a bracket for this lens. Once you have it, you will be able to mount it to pretty much anything out there.

Yes, you need a replacement collar.
Here is a thread talking about it:

This would be a good option, but you would be stepping into a specific type of quick-release system (Kirk). That's not a bad thing, necessarily, but as a beginner, it might seem more money than it's worth to you (at this time). If you're serious about this, then this would be a great way to help yourself out, IMO.

BTW- LOVE the 80-200. I've since picked up the new 70-200 VRII. A friend just took my 80-200 on a hunt to Texas about a week ago. Fantastic lens. And I didn't even have the AF-S version. The 80-200 is an absolute Nikon masterpiece, IMO (altho' I guess that's a bit vague as there are several different 80-200's!).
