Is anyone here running a 3 x 4k x 24" monitor setup? How do you like it?

One a general note, is 4k too small for you on a 24 incher? What kind of graphics card are you running?

4k + 24 inches = trashcan

That's the only help I can provide you. Someone else can comment on how to make such a setup work. I don't use multiple monitors except at work. I prefer large high res work spaces.

4k at 24 inches isnt bad. I own two 4k monitors one is 28" and 27" respectively. I use 100% native scaling as I don't find the text too small one bit.

At 24" I would probably adjust the scaling to 125%. I do sit really close to my monitors however.

I'm assuming this is for content creation and work? Triple 4k is too much for gaming unless you have 1080 ti SLI and/or lowered settings/old games.

Personally I would wait for a 21:9 5k panel if I were you though. If you can't wait, a 3440x1440 display may suit you better.

If you need multiple displays, 4k is definitely the way to go imo. The desktop real estate is unbeatable.

I am using 2 x 27" 1080p displays right now, I briefly used a 3 monitor setup and really liked the additional monitor and the wrap around effect. I prefer multiple monitors to give me a sense of separation of workspace if you know what I mean. I use my environment mainly for software development. 27" at 1080p isn't bad but it isn't as sharp as it could be due to pixel density being lower especially after getting used to the super high pixel density of phones and tablets these days :)

PS - I am not a gamer at all

24" 4k will be a tiny image compared to what you are using now @ 27" 1080p. I mean it will be less than 1/4 the size...

1440p monitors are quite good and I'm quite happy with my 21:9 3440x1440 UW for software development.

I wouldn't go less than 27" on a 4k, many people don't even like that and think its too small for text (most software dev ;)).

I would go to a store like Costco or Best Buy or maybe even Walmart and try out a 4k 24 / 27" and see how it feels to use them before buying.

I have a 32" 4k and even then I find text to be small. 24" 4k like others have said will be trash. I have a 34" 3440x1440 as well and prefer that for website reading and programming.

I want to be VERY clear OP. ZGRs experience is NOT the norm. Not only is it not the norm, Windows will NOT boot into 100% native scaling. It would definitely recommend you at LEAST 125% if not 150%.

I'm at 30-32" 4K monitor and I use 150% scaling. It's great with my glasses, a little rough without em. I could use 125% with glasses but it can get uncomfortable and 150% just makes it easy.

Since you're only using 2 crappy 1080p screens (tehehe!) go to 2 4K monitors first at 30 inches. If that's not enough workspace, add a 3rd. I wouldn't go lower than 30 inches.

Ever since I got my 4K 30 inch screen I'm super happy. I would NEVER staff a person with a non 4K screen if I cared about them. It's definitely more useful for productivity.

Huh?

I just set up a Ryzen 5 1600 system, with a GTX 1050ti 4GB (temp. card), and installed Win10 Creator's Edition Pro 64-bit.

It seemed to select 1080P, for the setup screens, but once I installed the Nvidia drivers, it went to 4K, with 100% scaling, and rebooting Windows 10, left it at 100% scaling.

Not really sure what you're talking about, honestly.

Yeah I have 100% scaling on my 4k as well (Windows 10). I don't like scaling as it makes everything else big.

The recommended setting should not be 100%. It will boot you into recommended setting at the start. Of course you can change the setting.

My recommended is 150% scaling.

I'm not sure how windows picks the recommended setting though.

Have two 27" 4K. I have my monitors as far back as possible and I like to recline in my chair, so I use 150% scaling in windows. 4K at 27" is borderline retina for me. This actually works out great for now because for whatever reason remote terminal still does not "scale" so any RDP sessions are viewed at 100% scaling no matter what your native windows scaling is. At 100% scaling little text on 4K 27" is borderline editable, I'm fine with letters, but it's hard to distinguish between a dot and a comma. I think 5K at 27" would be retina for me. 4K at 24" would certainly have to be retina and you would certainly have to use scaling. Windows still doesn't have perfect scaling, but it is much improved compared to early releases of Win10/8. Overall I like my monitors a lot. I won't go back to 24", but there is nothing wrong with 24", it's a personal preference really.

Its all personal preference, and the panel quality. I run my home desktop 27" 4k at 100% and it can use it all day from about 3 feet away. Love the small text and how much stuff I can fit on it. I rarely even need to turn my 2nd monitor on. My office work laptop is a 4k 15" and i leave it at 125% and its perfectly usable all day. My field laptop is a 13.3" 4k Zenbook and i run that at 125% as well. Text is clear on all three and very easy to read. I'm a big fan of high res monitors. I can't wait for 5k and 8k monitors to drop in price.

I used to run 4K Surround (3x Dell UP2414Q) using 24" IPS 4K panels.

I even made a thread about it a long time ago: https://forums.anandtech.com/thread...-quad-gtx-titan-sc-benchmarks-thread.2378028/

I like triple monitors because I can have two workspaces where I do my essential development stuff that I am actively using and the third screen I have non-essential and less important stuff on (youtube clip playing or some web content that I am following etc.), it really is amazing how useful the third screen is - you don't miss it until you have actually used it LOL!
