Ivy performs pretty much as you'd expect when confronted with high-def H.264 videos—flawlessly. Windowed Flash playback is another story. We tested Flash 11.2 in Chrome and were dismayed to find that playback wasn't particularly smooth despite the low CPU utilization. Switching to full-screen mode seemed to resolve the problem entirely, though. I expect we can chalk up that unexpected kink either to Flash itself or to Intel's drivers.

Why would anyone want to spend $500-$1200 on a notebook that cant even properly play youtube videos. Why is there even a debate about this? Sure, this might get fixed. But then again it might never work properly. It might just as easily get broken worse...

This kind of crap is allowed to fly, uncontested, for years. But because the trinity processor takes 1.3 seconds to do a complex spreadsheet calculation whereas the ib chip only requires 0.9 seconds, the intel is so much better? What kind of rubbish is that?

Except that Intel is also a member of TCA as are 4000 other companies, they're delivering keynote speech and their booth is ~2x larger than AMD's which can be seen on your link as they're on the same floor...

That's the nature of progress when it comes to the industry. The tricky part with "good enough" is knowingly paying for something that has been proven to be inferior in terms of raw performance.

To performance enthusiasts, that idea is maddening. We've all seen the numbers, Trinity is what it is; a chip with a strong, but mostly idle GPU and a CPU that can't really keep up with other similarly priced CPUs. Whether or not it applies to everyone, you can't deny that the current user experience in modern operating systems is primarily CPU bound, and until Trinity-esque architectures improve IPC or modern systems make use of heterogenous GPU conputing, it will be practically impossible to recommend something like this to a friend who wants the best by numbers, enthusiast or otherwise.

Can't agree with that. The gains from a beefier CPU for most common tasks are laughably low. I/O and GPU performance matters far more.

Flash, HTML 5, Chrome and Firefox seem to have options for hardware acceleration, the whole window manager if you're using OSX or will be using Windows 8. Video encoding wouldn't be something I'd label common, though.

Microsoft Office seems to support hardware acceleration too. No idea how much of an impact it makes though.

True, but the web-based group mentioned will only see that benefit under optimal connectivity conditions. It's a small exception to the issue, but it is there. Office's hardware acceleration only kicks in for graphical systems. Powerpoint and Visio see most, if not all the benefit.

If they "started" shipping in April, how long would it take to test, assemble and mass produce? two months does sound quite quick but I'm sure you guys know more about that than me.

We will deal with Haswells iGPU next year, now Trinity is faster than HD4000.

LOL! Your delusional. Neither IVB or Trinity are Good enough so at this moment in time . Idon't really care about whats available at this time . Now If Haswell is as good as some think . I may become interested in iGPU. But for now . Its good enough for everthing BUT gaming. I want the whole package . When viewing a good quality Avi file , in that case Stevie Wonder Live at BBC,
CPU utilisation in the task manager with my old 1.6G P4 is lower than with my
DC T4400 2.2G and both have a discrete GPU.

Looks like that review basically states Trinity and D3 are good to go? Humble settings, sure, but rewind even two years and gaming on laptops just wasn't even possible without getting out the credit card for something with a real video card, not just the 9400M, etc.

Update: As noted earlier, many are saying the later stages and higher difficulty levels can really start to drop frame rates. Take the following graphs as a reference point, and plan on dropping some detail settings and/or resolution later in the game on lower end hardware.

From all the benched games on Anandtech, there's not a single one you couldn't comfortably play on Trinity if you're not adverse to reducing graphics settings.

I'm on act 4 Hell Difficulty on my desktop Llano. I'll let you know when I have to throw the towel and stop playing. Inferno difficulty isn't that much more demanding, you just run in circles for ages trying not to get caught by mobs.
