hehe...the leaks started...

Seriously though after all the BS we went through with AMD leading up to Bulldozer's release, this could be a marketing slide hosted straight from AMD's website and I still wouldn't believe one iota of it.

I'll believe in Piledriver's abilities when I see the cold hard bench results from a 3rd party reviewer like Anand.

Until then, leaked or straight from AMD's mouth, not gonna waste my time putting much stock in the claims.

(that said, I'll still go looking for the leaks so I can read about them because it is fun to contemplate the "what if" scenarios and outcomes, so don't take my negativity to be all that)

I agree totally about waiting for reliable reviews. The other thing I don't understand is why they did not incorporate some of these improvements in bulldozer. It is not like they didn't have years of development
and several delays to give them time to do it. They must have realized the weaknesses of the architecture.

Bulldozer was quite rushed. They really didn't have all the time in the world, considering how many changes they were making.

We've already seen Piledriver's performance in Trinity... I don't know why anyone remotely skeptical, since we already know what it can do vs. K10.5.

Are we in bizarro world or have I traveled back in time? Piledriver cores are in Trinity. Why are we even discussing questionable marketing slides for a product we have legitimate benchmarks for?!

Yea, Vishera could be a bit faster, but we'll see. I doubt average IPC will be much higher. No IGP + triple-digit TDP could make for some silly-high clocks, though.

Several sites tested Trinity and at least the power savings improvements are noticeable...

They haven't addressed the decoder width issue yet.

I think it'll be interesting to see what they do with Steamroller. Shorter pipeline with faster caches? From the looks of Piledriver it looks like the IMC hasn't been tweaked at all besides the bump to support 1600mhz memory and whatever it goes to now on the desktop. If AMD want their APUs to perform well the IMC better be one of the strongest parts of the Steamroller architecture otherwise they're screwed.

Foot in mouth eh.
But again:

Why does this comes with a GPU...wasn't the IGP enough...isn't that the point of this whole thread?

Because you can use the iGPU for everyday tasks and light gaming and switch to the discrete GPU when you need a larger punch and don't have to run off battery?

Sorry, but either the HD4000 or Trinity are pretty mediocre for gaming. I just can only read so many of your pro-AMD statements before I finally have to respond negatively.

I don't know how to respond because "gaming", and especially "hardcore gaming" are such loaded terms. iGPUs can be far better for "gaming" than any dedicated GPU if the usage case is right.

could you elaborate on this? I'm not sure what you mean. and this is not a negative post, i'm just a curious guy that loves reading everyone's opinions.

Have you ever used an A8 on a laptop? I bought one for my daughter, and I can't disagree more. The only issues I have with it is actually with the less than great keyboard on the laptop. Fantastic chip for all games at the 13x9 resolution of the laptop. I could play everything at max settings as well. I was quite impressed.

Given the price it s like there s an added discrete GFX for free ,
i suppose that it s some quite of bundle..

Why not , that s more versatile and if price stay low
it doesnt hurt...
