TRINITRON TUBE - Two very fine horizontal lines across my display

I see two very fine horizontal lines across my display. KDS AND SONY both say its normal for All models under the KDS Avitron brand are based on Trinitron CRTs manufactured by Sony. This type of CRT
uses aperture grille technology, rather than the standard shadow-mask technology, to distribute and focus
electron beams to the screen.
Shadow mask tubes have a thin foil of metal, perforated by a grid of small holes, attached to the inside of the screen. Aperture grille tubes instead use an array of
vertically arranged wires.
Depending on the size of the tube, these wire arrays require 1, 2, or 3 very fine suspension wires across them to stabilize the wires in the aperture grille. Without
these, the display would be very sensitive to any shock or vibration and result in visible shimmering or rippling. (In fact, even with these stabilizing wires, you can
usually see this shimmering if you whack a Trinitron monitor.) The lines you see are the shadows cast by these fine wires.

The number of wires depends on the size of the screen. Below 15" there is usually a single wire; between 15" and 21" there are usually 2 wires;
above 21" there may be 3 wires.

Only you can decide if this effect is serious enough to avoid the use of a Trinitron based monitor. Some people never get used to the fine
lines. Most users really like the generally high quality and rich depth of color that Trinitron-based displays offer. They become accustomed to the lines, and they
cease to be a concern.

THIS kinda sucks, but its not that bad
anybody having problems with the lines?

That's just the way they are. It's the tradeoff for the brighter, better contrast picture that AG usually provides.

this is one of the catches with AG technology.

AG is superior to SM in terms of display quality. but the two lines are very annoying. thanks for the lesson too bad i already knew what was mentioned in the blurb.

You will most definitely notice them on a white background, some people can notice them at other times.

if you care, don't get AG monitors.

you can always get an LCD if you want. no lines.

trinitron is AG period.

and the flat display is based on the Sony curved display (vertically flat).

It's not a big deal, when I got my 17" Trinitron I thought I would worry about it. I've been using it for 3 years now and no gripes... in fact I didn't even remember the lines until I read this thread... THANKS A LOT!!! :| (haha jk :))

Yep, I have two lines on the monitor I use the most lately, the KDS avitron and they don't bother me in the slightest. I wouldn't worry about it.

Those lines are just part of the price you pay for Trinitron. Usually, 15" and under have one, and 17" and higher have 2. They're caused by the 'wires' that hold a 'mesh' screen in place in the tube. Most people (cept those Cad freaks ;) ) don't even notice em after a while.

Same here...I don't even notice it anymore. The sharpness and clarity can't be beat.

For all the $$$$ SONY charges for their supposedly "superior" screens they just can't think of a way to make the lines invisible.

Geeez. With all those great engineers they got you figure they would come up with something.

I have two aperature grille monitors and I don't even see the lines anymore unless I look for them. I think it's a small price to pay for the quality they offer.

I have 2 on my 19 inch monitor and I agree that you really only notice them when you're looking for them. Other people that use this computer have yet to notice them (and it's been 2 years).

DBavaria--It will continue to haunt you throughout life. It will only get worse. I will give you $50 for it.;)

Mine bothered and bothered me, and kept eating at me, so I just had to get rid of them. What I did:

on one of my monitors I covered them with Whiteout, on the other, I covered them with black Magic Marker. I prefer the Magic Marker solution.:)

i used a mac for my art class (no.. don't yell at me...) And it was a G3 that had a trinny tube (dunno if FD or not) but i noticed the lines all the time (mainly using photoshop/netscape). It's so hard to decide: color quality vs lines.... but it seems that only the apeture grill based monitors will do 16x12@85 (19" variety)....

but celstar, i wouldn't quite "throw that POS out the window." Not unless it failed on me :)

Yeah, those lines used to bother me too when using Word with a white background. So I painted over them with liquid paper and no more problem.

I don't notice them when I don't want to, but I actually get a strange kick out of seeing them there - it reminds me that I have a top quality triniton flat screen :) sad eh?

I can only see the lines when I actually look for them. Been using trinitrons for 3 years now. Small tradeoff if you ask me. Anyone who is annoyed by them can't have used one for more than 10 minutes.
