Trinitron going out? and 16ms 1" LCD?

Well, I think my 17" Sony Trinitron 200es is going out. I'll lose Green and Blue (left with a red tinted screen) at times or sometimes I'll lose Green and Red or Red and Blue (I mostly lose green and blue though). Does anyone think that it might just be the VGA connector?

If it is going out, I'm not going to bother getting it repaired and will go for a 17" LCD. Are there any decent priced 17" LCD screens that are 16ms? or any widescreen LCDs that run at 16 ms? The 2nd most important thing for me is that it have a thin bezel around the lcd.

edit: switched 19" to 17" lcd. the pocketbook isn't heavy enough for a 19" yet =)

Good 17" LCDs start at 500 and up.
Good 19" CRT start at 250 and up.

It's your decision.

Personally, I don't think that LCDs have a justified price.

lcd monitors are easier on my eyes and take a lot less space. my sony trinitron is 18" deep for a 17" monitor. Well, I actually need more space than those 18" so I can rotate it. Are there any dlp type monitors available? are there any crt screens that dont' take up much space and have a small border around the screen?

If there are any, price wise it'll be better to just get an LCD.

BTW a good LCD is a Viewsonic VP171 for 550 at Newegg.com.

I think you can get good 17" gaming LCDs (16ms) for closer to $400.

I was thinking more of Dell's semi-regular sales than of a particular sale. I guess 17"ers tend toward $550, but I'm pretty sure I remember the Dell 16ms 17" panels going for ~$450.

just make sure you check the xbit labs list to confirm that the lcd you're buying is truly 16ms.

Have you checked to make sure the cables are secured on the Trinitron? Both the end that goes into the monitor and the end that goes into the videocard? I've seen this sort of thing quite a few times, and the culprit has always been the cable. Either pins were missing, or it just wasn't secured well enough to the videocard or monitor.

it's weird. the screen doesn't turn red, etc when hooked up to another computer. but when connected to my main computer it does it everytime. it's not missing pins or anything. i'm lost.

Hmm, sounds like its either your video card (hardware), or maybe drivers (software).

Your problems definitely sound connection-related. Do they go away when you wiggle the connector?

A also have a 200es and even though it is not a flat screen and doesn't have the highest resolution, it is still one of the best monitors I have seen, much better then the latest sony models (I don't know why).

What I am trying to say is that no LCD will be anywere close to as good as the 200es quality wise. Personaly I prefer the new Dell LCDs including the 16 ms 2001FP but it is 21" and the others are not 16ms, but if you can, you should look at them yourself and see if something is good enough as at least for me finding a decent LCD is much harder then finding a decent CRT.
