trillian vs GAIM

can we have option for neither? miranda, cuz its by far the most customizable out of the three and takes up the least resources; its like foobar of the IM world, better if you are willing to spend some time tweaking it and lighter out-of-the-box otherwise.

GAIM is ok but it doesnt let you be logged in MSN and AIM at the same time, correct me if I am wrong. I am using it on my linux box though. never liked trillian and dont understand why some of the school computers have them when you could get better and free miranda IM instead.

Gaim, agreeing with the reasons above. It seems smaller, faster, and cleaner that when I tried Trillian. Plus, I like that it is 100% free as opposed to "free but crippled" unless you pay.

I tried Miranda a long time ago and remember not liking it - it was indeed small, but I didn't like how barebones it was out of the box. To make it any good seemed like it took a lot of customizing and work, and I don't remember there being any good resource for what the best or top recommended plugins were. For now, I'm sticking with gaim, even though they're trying my patients with their ghetto 2.0 release 😛

Miranda looks cool and my bro customized it to his heart's content on windows, but why isn't there a linux version? Kind of puzzles me considering its open-source. =

Running gaim right now.

Trillian. That's what I first used and every other alternative I've tried (Gaim, Miranda) just seems.. half-assed. Trillian is polished and intuative (or maybe I'm just used to it,) while the others have weird quirks and odd behavior. And they just don't have some of the polish and niceties that Trillian (0.74) seems to have.

Crippled? I wouldn't say that. Trillian Pro offers some specialized functions that I wouldn't even use if they were in the free client.

To me, that sems like saying you wouldn't drive a free BMW because it was "crippled" because it didn't have seat warmers and a fart-pipe. 😛

Miranda easily. Everytime I use GAIM it has some annoying crap or quirk and I could never get into Trillian even after trying it once a year or so for the past couple.
