Trigonometry

I will come out right now and say that Im bad at math. Im a junior in hgih school and Im still in Geometry class. Anyway, the realization of this came crashing down on me when I had to take teh ACT today. HALF THE QUESTIONS WERE TRIG QUESTIONS!! They used crazy words like "Cosine" and "Sine" and this weird thing that looked like a zero with a line through it. What are all these things??

Well Cosine and sine and tangent are things that are used to find angles of right triangles by using rations of sides. Yes i know that sounds confusing. The 0 with a line through it is called Theta and its just a symbol that is assigned to angles, thats all.

<< Oh, cool. Does anyone know how those things are represented numerically? >>

sine = opposite/hypotenuse
cosine = adjacent/hypotenuse
tangent = opposite/adjacent

Trgonometry rocks, dude! Without it, 3d or even 2d games wouldn't be possible! Rotation, scaling, texture-mapping and anti-aliasing are all based on trigonometry and geometry...

Learn it, my friend.

sin x = x - x^3/3! + x^5/5! - x^7/7! .... or summation from k= 0 to infinity of: (-1)^k * (x (2k+1))/(2k+1)!

cos x = 1- x^2/2! + x^4/4! - x^6/6! .... or summation from k= 0 to infinity of: (-1)^k * (x^(2k))/(2k)!

k! (k factorial) = 1 * 2 * 3 * 4 * ..... * (k-1) * k

sine = opposite/hypotenuse
cosine = adjacent/hypotenuse
tangent = opposite/adjacent

an easy way to remember: acronyms can be so fun!

Weird, I didn't learn that one in school. 😉

In my HS, most students are in Geom/Trig 2, followed by Pre-Calc.

What was the native american dude named

Im not really sure what it means, but its a way of remembering.</FONT>

You want a Cookie!!!! Dude never asked for anything by the name of Taylor, Series or a combination of those words!! some of u...ahhhggggh...

Ya all got it wrong, It's

Oscar Has A Hairy Old Ass Sally Can Tell

When you say it write the first letters verically on the page Then when you get to Sally start form the top and match up with the pairs.

O = Sin
H

A = Cos
H
O= Tan
A

The circle with a horizontal line is the Greek letter Theta. It represents an angle.

I think its time we introduced you to the alcoholic functions 🙂

sinh = (e^x - e^(-x))/2
cosh = (e^x + e^(-x))/2
tanh = sinh x / cosh x

Yea, that's how I remember it:

SOHCAHTOA

SOH: Sin(theta) = Opposite/Hypotenuse
CAH: Cos(theta) = Adjacent/Hypotenuse
TOA: Tan(theta) = Opposite/Adjacent

<< <<SOHCAHTOA >>

What I meant is Im not sure what the word in a non-relating to math way means.
>>

I don't think it means anything. Just a convenient mnemonic.
