with the Twopointtwo Rom, it rebooted the 1st time and I got the screen with the phone in the middle and a down facing arrow with a circle around it. Then it shut down, and now it won't come back on. When I plug the charger in the white charging light doesn't even come on.

can you totally brick a phone from flashing? (followed the directions exactly) I can't even get it to come on or go into recovery mode.

Possible however I would consider it fairly unlikely. Are you sure the phone doesn't have a dead battery? The evo won't turn on unless it has a sufficient amount of battery power.

Can you get to the bootloader?

Do you have the correct RUU to flash back to stock if you need to?

Am I to drunk to offer any detailed instructions?

I can only answer one of these questions.

Also connect it to your PC via USB and have a look at what comes up in device manager.

I thought the battery might just be dead too, but I left it plugged into into the wall charger for 30 minutes and still nothing. I'm new to the EVO but I think I remember yesterday whenever I'd plug it in the led light at the top would come in indicated its charging.

to WelshBloke, I can't do anything, I've tried power + vol down and nothing happens. And in win 7 under device manager when I plug it in nothing comes up at all. it's like the phone is totally dead/

Thats not good.

Do you have a stock RUU for your phone?

I downloaded the stock RUU that EVO released, but I don't see how I can flash it if windows isn't even detecting the phone.

It probably wont but its a quick way to see whats happening.

What happens when you run the RUU? Error 170?

Yep error 170, I googled and found no helpful advice about it. Appears I bricked awesome sauce. Sad thing is I bought the phone off Craigslist this week so I'm out $250.

Oh well...

have you tried a battery pull?

also try booting without the SD card.

I pressed and held the power, took the battery out and waited for 30 seconds, nothing. I just tried removing the SD, nothing. What I believe caused it, to install the Twopointtwo rom you have to update the radio/nv/wimax & err 1 other thing. When I tried to flash the radio (yesterday) I got an error and it aborted. I didn't think anything of it and rebooted the phone but it was stuck on the evo screen. I was reading that updating the radio can short the motherboard if you try the GSM radio update on a CDMA or visa versa.

I downloaded the file from a guide on how to flash the EVO 4g, so it should have been the CDMA radio I got. I can only assume this was the problem. I followed the installation guide to a t, so I don't think it was due to me not doing something right. I have no idea why the radio file wouldn't install. A guy told me it was also bad that I took the battery out when I saw the phone icon with the arrow early this morning. I had pressed power and tried vol up and down before I pulled it though. It was stuck. Or perhaps it was just my bad luck. In either case my phone is completely dead and aside from it magically coming back on later today or something I fear I need to get a new one.

I made exactly zero calls with it and only had time to play with it for about 10 minutes outside of trying to install the TPT rom. lol. The only semi silver lining here is it wasn't an iPhone 4 and I can find EVO's on Craigslist for $175'ish all day long. Also since the screen's still good I might be able to sell it for uhh I dunno $75 or something "as is" for parts on Craigslist.

Have you tried asking at an Evo specific forum?

No I have not, but I don't see what they could tell me. MY PC won't detect anything when the phones plugged in, I get zero power and the charging light doesn't come on. All I found on an EVO forum was 4 people who had problems when flashing the radio and ended up with dead phones.

With that said, I should probably at least post a message on XDA it can't hurt :)

They'll probably know a sequence of buttons to push or something when powering on your phone to reset some stuff.

First, plug the thing into a wall charger - preferably the one it came with - for at least a few hours, if not overnight.

If your phone was already rooted and such, it's incredibly unlikely that you could brick it in the process of flashing a ROM. I'm more worried that the charging LED doesn't come on. Could be coincidental. But post this to XDA in the Evo General forum.

Even if you can't boot into recovery, you can flash an RUU, you just need to get it to power on. Most likely suspect is low charge, so try that first.

As others have said, leave it plugged in overnight, maybe you can get it to charge, if it's dead, do an RMA with HTC, they'll replace it.

Sorry that happened to you Quebert, but you have to be careful with the sequence of flashing, when you get it replaced, go with cyanogen's mod first, then play with the others.

I find it hard to believe a brick happened outside of something weird going on when flashing a radio or something.

When you saw the green icon with the arrow, that was the radio updating. It takes for what seems like forever for it to finish. If you pulled the battery while that icon was up you bricked. As me how I know.....

I would definitely go over to XDA and see if they can help. I normally have tons of suggestions, but if your phone won't even turn on then I can't help.

Message before yours + yours makes me a sad panda, I'm almost 100% sure what's what caused it. I'll leave it plugged in over night, but I'm pretty sure it's gone. I should have waited longer but I thought it was an error message :( Apparently it's easy to totally brick the phone if you stop a radio update premature that's kind of crappy.

well my fault.

It is very hard to brick the EVO, and it sounds like your phone still lights up and turns on, so you are not completely bricked. From what I have read, the only people who have truly bricked their phones messed with the radios. Make sure you hold down the volume down button then hold down the power button till you see the HTC start screen.

I would check over at XDA like someone else said, they have a lot of threads on people "bricking their phone".

this is prob too late for your phone bbut in the future. Try "rom manager" and titanium backup, both from the market. I am very limited in flashing knowledge and it did everything automatically. . It made the process VERY easy to flash the phone. I use mikfroyo rom because of the great battery life and speed. It based on the stock sprint rom so it is rather reliable.

Good luck with your evo. I know you will love it once you get everything fixed.
