tried to cook . . .

potatoes - but I didn't put them in yet, and I put in some butter to let it melt a bit - I was away checking my email in the next room, just checking it, then poof! The smoke alarm's going off, there's a pillar of fire from the frying pan, and smoke is everywhere(lousy ventilation in the apartment)!
 
Butter burns quickly..Guess you know that know though huh? 😀


At least you weren't cooking bacon and have grease everywhere.
 
My wife's apartment burned down because someone in the apartment 2 doors down did that.

You're lucky you didn't burn it all down.
 
Yeah, I may have had grease around the stove - always simply wiped it off before - I think that's what happened, and I scrubbed the stove down. Not going near that thing again anytime soon:

Thanks for all the advice AFTER I almost burn the damn place down! I should stroll over to the hospital, go to the morgue, and tell the corpses what they SHOULD'VE done to live longer! No, really!

don't worry, i once buttered the bread all neat and nice, dropped in toaster and went to vaccum my room. next thing i knew, alarms went off everywhere, and i ran to the kitchen and the toaster was on fire!!!! it melted the paint straight off the bottom of the cabinet and smoke was everywhere.

i put on cooking gloves, jumped up and yanked the ac cord out, and emptied the fire extingisher on it. boy were my roommates pissed...then the microwave was my best friend too 😀
