Went to the local computer show on sunday and bought a E-vga Geforce MX Card with 32 meg memory, From the start it was a nightmare, First I uninstalled my voodoo 3 2000 and installed the MX card, Tried to reboot and no video at all, reseated the card and all was well I thought, started to load the drivers and BANG, The blue screen of death, rebooted and same Sh!t,Third time the install went well, system rebooted after the driver install and the card seemed real snappy , then I went to change my screen resolution to 1280 * 1040 (I always ran this resolution) changed it and the 2D looked like Sh!t.SO to make a long story short,I ripped this Mx card out and bought A voodoo 4 4500 and I am very happy with this card ,Its a lot better then I thought...

One thing tough, I would like to read a review of the voodoo 4 card , has anyone seen any.......

one more thing, can the voodoo 4 be overclocked......

You actually found a Voodoo4 4500 ?, wow.

Still... I think it was a very very bad choice considering you had a Voodoo3 2000 before, very little speed difference.

Like I say, a Voodoo4 4500 is nothing more than a year old PR glorified TNT2 with added unusable T-Buffer.

Sounds like he made the right choice considering his experience.

I've seen a few threads recently with problems with the MX cards, are there others who are happy with it? I'm considering getting one.

I've had two of Nvidias card, the Geforce and the tnt2 ultra. And I really didn't like them. I now have a voodoo 5500 and I love it. Very stable.

Dogbite ,Sorry to read about your bad 2D quality on your ex-Geforce2 MX,I do believe the 2D quality on these cards are all different,my own Sparkle Geforce2 MX is very sharp in 2D quality(tested upto 1600*1200),& have had no problems at all,but at the end of the day it`s what you are happy with that counts.Go here for V4 review

Buying any Nvidia-based card is like playing the lottery, you never know where the actual manufacturer of the card has cut corners to keep the price down. If you are lucky, you get an excellent video card. If not, you are in hardware compatibility hell.

i have an asus V7100 geforce2 mx and it kicks azz. Most of the complaints i've heard have been about Evga models. Alot of people seem to be impressed with the asus and guillemot.

Ive got both the asus and the hercules

Theyre both great in 2D and are just as good as a Voodoo3 i used to have.
I reckon the asus pips the herc in picture quality.
Both runnin 200mhz memory too :)

I used to have a DDR GF1 but seein as i play online all the time and never play at anything but 800x600x16 couldnt see the point in keeping it when i could make money by swapping.
The MX's on a fast processor are slightly faster than the old DDR at the above res and colour depth :D

What do you expect when you buy an eVGA card. They cut every corner possible, that is why you got it for such a good price. Spending a little extra to get a well known brand pays off. I have had nearly every NVIDIA card since their beginnings, always bought the better brands and never had any problems.

EVGA is not cheaper because of cut corners. I highly doubt any other mx brand has better 2d quality than it. Its cheaper than others because its OEM and has no software bundle and less support. Thats why, geez.

You are partially correct, eVGA doesn't bundle software and this drops the price of the card. But they DO cut corners, buying lower quality capacitors, resistors and other passive components saves money and lowers the overall quality of the end product.
