Granted it was what I've heard to be a sh*ty nissan dealer and i'm sure the other one in town would have been more obliging.

I appreciate a dealer not wanting people in driving all their cars around but I was with mrsskoorb and two people of our age with a 3-4 year old maxima could very much appear to be ready to upsize to a 350z especially since I specifically stated I wanted a bottom of the line one. It's not like I drove up in the sentra and wanted to test drive a new m5.

Some are just a-holes like that... someone did that to my parents a couple of years ago. The guy flatly asked them how much can they afford... i guess he got sick of following them around looking at all the cars in the summer heat. Then one guy came up instead and stuck with my parents all afternoon... needless to say he got the deal. 🙂

I've come to the conclusion that there are several factors when it comes to test driving a car - how you dress, the car you pull up into the dealership, your credit, even the car salesman is a factor. I was in the Nissan dealership about 2 months ago wanting to buy a 350Z. I've always liked the 280Zs and the 300Zs ever since I was a kid (I'm 24 now), and the 350s look really nice. I never did ask to test drive the car but he did offer to let me test drive it. I'm sure my pulling up to the dealership in a Lincoln Navigator had something to do with it 🙂 Didn't tell him it wasn't mine though...belonged to my uncle who was across the street finishing up the paperwork for a new Acura he was buying. Well to make a long story short...30 minutes later I'm ready to buy a 350Z until I come to the financing department. Best they could do was 60 months with 5.9%...told them I wanted something along the lines of 2.9%. They wouldn't do it so I ended up leaving...I did get a call from them a few days later but they would only go to 4.5%.

I've decided I'll wait until the beginning of next year and get it then. The one thing that annoys me about the 350Z is how horrible the sound system is. I'm going to have to replace the entire sound system. That'll be about another $4500-$5000...hey what can I say, I'm an audio nut 🙂

This thread is entertaining as hell.

Got one clueless guy trying to drive a Cobra.

Anothe clueless 16 year old kid who seems to think that the Civic DX he test drove was really a S2000.

I would like to hear some of the lines these tools use to attempt to pick up girls.

I got to test drive one for the weekend earlier this year. Went in wearing a suit, and talked for a little (10 - 15min) about the car. Also drove up in friends '91 Mustang 5.0 (excellent condition). They take your CC as collateral, and since I have about 40k available, it was no problem.

I pretty much did the same thing when I went Mustang shopping, except instead of wearing a suit, I just acted nervous as hell. I got to test drive it, and then I bought it. I'm not going to tell you how old I am, but, I will tell you that the *particular* licence he saw was less than 6 months old.

No problems here or here.

Edit: forgot, rents cosigned for their rediculously elite credit rating... i think it was over 800, but the car was totally taken care of in my name and my cash 😀 Dealer: "What do you do for a living again son?"

Is it that bad?

I've been meaning to test drive the audio in those new Lexus (IIRC) with the Levinson stuff. That would be sweet.

For what you expect to do, it's like me running in an high class men's store looking like a dirty ghetto slumbag, and asking to try on their Armani suits.... hell while I'm at it... ill call MS and see if they can give me 10 free copies of Windows Server 2003 to try since i have 15 computers and i am an enthusiast computer user....

As for the 16yo who "supposedly" tested the S2000, wow that's a great story. Are you trying to impress your creative writing teacher or do you like typing more BS than a cow can crap in a week?

when I was a kid living off my parents money....

My friend (who had way more money than my family...in 1988/89 drove to school in a 87 supra, ferrari 308 gti, porsche 930, etc) and I pulled up to a Nissan dealership in my 1966 Mustang GT that was fully restored (receipts added up to $44k...the car was not worth that, but that's the cost to make it 'new')..we were about 17 at the time.

First thing the sales drone said was 'Did MAACO do your paint?' at first I thought this was sarcastic and joking since I was stopped in traffic to be asked who detailed my car (MAACO is a $200 paint job place here)...

so my friend told him he is looking for a 4-runner since his 2 seaters are too cramped to entertain in.

It gets all crazy even with the drone calling my friends Rolex a bad fake. I have no idea what set this guy off but we were pissed.

In the end my friends dad bought him something I forget to drive back to the dealership and show the manage the papers on. The salesman was fired.

I can guarantee you if you are serious about a car and the salesretard pisses on you then you come back with a purchase from another dealership they will be canned.

most can't do this and are just tire-kickers. Everytime I sell one of my cars I get 10 joy-riders for every serious buyer. 🙁

I'm 23, and I bought my 350Z wearing a hat, shorts, and my favorite sandles. I don't play games, I just tell people exactly what I want and ask if they're willing to take my money. If they hassle me, then I move on. The first dealer I went to played the "good cop, bad cop" bit so I walked after having taken a test drive in a touring and a track. I don't appreciate being treated like a moron when I give them a buyer's order that already has the price I was willing to pay (MSRP less $800), the options, etc. I went to another dealer and placed an order within 15 minutes without any hassle whatsoever.

Anyway, the point is that I think it's really just about how you approach people in *any* sizeable business transaction. If you give them everything they need to complete the transaction less receipt of payment, why would they deny you anything? I extensively research just about everything before I buy it, so the salesmen really serve no other purpose than to take my money and hand it over to the finance department, so it's their choice.

He gets a b/c he wanted protection on his expensive car?
You get a b/c you wasted the Dodge dealer's time when you had no intention of buying the Viper either way.

I can see that I should have paid more attention to this thread.....

My Buddy WAS intending to buy the viper, he has EXCELLENT credit and currently drives Boxster. Not a true "Exotic" but never the less.... We were on our way back from work when we stopped. It's his preferred method for car shopping since It shows you who the true salesmen and who the "pushers" are.

He was considering many different vehicles, the viper was one of them. He had no problem with the guy running his credit or anything, the "pusher" said I can see that won't go through so I'll need a deposit. The salesman was clearly RUDE and full of himself, hence the reason we "wasted" his time. Now YOU get the
rolleye.gif

You can buy a vehicle with a check, they just call it into the bank for verification of funds....
