And yes, even though the game was pretty mediocre (I barely replay it as it is), I got my DoD:S, CS:S, and I am oh so happy.

Halo and Halo 2 meh...not good games either.

Did anyone else feel like HL2 was just way too damn easy even on the highest difficulty? I sure did Try and beat Doom 3 or Far cry on maxed out difficulty
Not challenging at all on medium, High is just annoying at times: the game itself isn't challenging, but more like a cheap way of increasing difficulty by increasing the accuracy of the weapons your enemies have.

different flavors for different people i guess:

to the op : 1) valve has acknowledges (a bit hesitantly :p ) that steam was a disaster. They have tried to 'fix' it, i dont know if it's any better currently. Also : ravenholm section? gah, almost every other part of the game was better :) It honestly wasn't a bad game. I didn't feel like shooting someone because i had paid for it *shrugs*. cheers.

I didn't like HL2 much at all. I loved the original HL, I think Steam and the long driving sections put me off on it. The puzzles were uninspired compared to the original, and the graphics were only slightly better, with the exception of water and people, they did a great job on those.

Ravenholm was my favorite part I think, to each his own I guess :). I hope some good single player mods come out for it. There were some great ones for HL. They Hunger was the best imo. That would be incredible on the new engine, or maybe the DIII engine.

A chunk of Ravenholm. It's too bad they didn't put a sticker on the demo saying "THE REST OF THE GAME IS 3 - 4 TIMES AS GOOD AS THIS SECTION!"

They used Ravenholm??? now it makes cents why he doesn't like it. It was scary and all but really sucked in comparison to other chapters.

it makes cents now eh ;)

ravenholm was okay, i found parts of it more frustrating then entertaining.

i liked the use of the gravity gun in parts of the game, especially puzzle solving and trap rigging.

Steam is a content delivery system. I didn't like the idea at first but thought I'd give it a try. Well, at least for me, it works pretty damn well. So well in fact that the first games I load after an OS reload are Steam-based games, because the process is so easy. As for your feeling about HL2, it's okay if you don't like the game. What's strange is that you seem to want to make a big deal of it.

i wasnt even impressed with the graphics either

after all the biggin up videos valve showed, the final product was a bit of a watered down let down. and the game was way too short to make it worth £35

Half life 2 CAN be good at some times, and i really really doubt the demo was a good part of the game. Yes, its boring sometimes, but hey, it comes with counter strike source, and there are plenty of games/mods coming out on steam using the HL2 engine (DoD source, HL2 lost coast, Battlegrounds 2)

The ending of HL2 is great, the beginning is, eh...Still, there's lots of things to appreciate in the game, like graphics and physics.

So, i'd get the game anyways...just for saying that you played it, and then benefitting from CS:S and mods...

At first, I was blown away by HF2, maybe because I am going from FX5200 graphics to X800XL? :p anyways as the game progressed, the more boring it got...the first 3-4 chapters were a lot of fun, but now so boring, I'm in chapter 8 almost to nova prospekt.....sooooo bored at this point, wishing it would all end, but theres 13 chapters :( *sigh*....now I'm just finishing it just for the sake of finishing it.

As for farcry...I stopped playing after 1 hour, it was so lame, terrible story, terrible voice acting and terrible character design, the only thing it had was great graphic.

$10 says that the reason they used Ravenholm was because you just got the Grav Gun and could fling sawblades at enemies. It was an ok level, but yeah, not the best. The origina lwas a great game and a pioneer. I still maintain that HL had/has the best AI of any game (the Marines were phenominal). Not only did you get HL (a great single player experience) but a fantastic deathmatch and countless mods. HL2 so far fits into all aforementioned catagories, except for Mods, which are in development all over the place (see Goldeneye:Source)

Just out of curiosity, hold old is the op?

I don't think there are a huge number of mods for Doom3/Farcry/etc compared to HL2.

I want to buy HL2 soon so I can play DoD. What's this about "Silver"? Is there a special version of the game I have to buy?

If you want to flame, so be it :)

I really only like multi player games like BF and so I bought HL2 just for CS, I Like it played HL2 for about 10 minutes.

I hardly have time to play on-line so I find it hard when other poeple play it for like hours aday and are really good, they should make severs for people that only play it a few hours a week, or sothing.

Plus I Have to play it for about an hour striaght just to get good anyways.
