Honestly guys...sorry to say this (especially for the HL2 fans) that this game doesn't impress me at all. Heck farcry has more of the "fun" factor in there.

If you want to flame, so be it :)

I doubt anyone will flame you for having an opinion. Anyone so emotionally invested in a product that they feel they must defend its honor should probably seek help, or at least get away from the PC for a few days.

Of course the same goes for people casting flame bait.

Edit to add:

But I agree. ;)

I've never even played Half Life 2, may some day. But I do have to ask: Out of all the games that have come out in the past year, HL2 is the only one that doesn't impress you? If so, that's beyond bizarre. If not, why single out HL2?

I am unimpressed by games all the time, but I don't feel the need to start a thread about it

Especially games that have been out for almost 2 years now

Yeah, it's not like it's remotely a new release and people are posting their impressions about it. Or maybe...

At any rate, when does the thread offering your impressions on Wing Commander III go up?

I played doom 3 (all of it), painkiller (all of it), call of duty (all of it), far cry, rtcw (all of it), and one thing that all of these games have in common is their demo versions. Right just before I even think of grabbing a game, the demos are usually the most important for me. If the demo of that particular game impressed me, as and end result that i'll be really satisfied with the gameplay with the full retail version. And especially for the HL2 demo, what really twist my balls is the steam engine. I have to practically have to wait several minutes to make it load, I found it to be very annoying. The enemies in the game are mediocre at best, hardly get the fun of it killing them at all.

HL2 is one of the best games ever made...second to Ecco the Dolphin. (for Sega Genesis) ;)

umm....if HL2 doesn't impress you, one of the following is true:

-your cpu/video card are very old/underpowered
-you are an avid console gamer
-you don't like any FPS games
-your favorite game is something with street car racing in it

I'm not sure what's in the HL2 demo, but I would have to think that someone would have to be soulless to not at least be able to appreciate what they've done with the full game.

I was thinking the same thing. I wonder if he has played the original?

I have said before and I will say it again...

Far Cry out-weighted Doom 3 and HL2 with ease. Not to mention we didnt get put off for years waiting for it. HL2 was definitely a big let down.

If being unimpressed with the HL2 demo leads you to not buying the game, well I pity you.
Buy the game, fail to ejnoy it if oyu really want, then look at the rather long list of mods in the making, try some, like Dystopia, and realise you didn't buy HL2, you bought HL2, CS:, maybe DoD:S (if you go Silver or above) AND all of the mods that are being made/are out, some of which are very good.
I don't think there are a huge number of mods for Doom3/Farcry/etc compared to HL2.

Pretty much, even though they did put the weakest chapter in the game in it.

A chunk of Ravenholm. It's too bad they didn't put a sticker on the demo saying "THE REST OF THE GAME IS 3 - 4 TIMES AS GOOD AS THIS SECTION!"

Did anyone else feel like HL2 was just way too damn easy even on the highest difficulty? I sure did:( Try and beat Doom 3 or Far cry on maxed out difficulty:Q

Maybe you should spend less time playing games. I thought it was fine. However, I also think the game would lose its feel if Gordon Freeman died repeatedly.

It was ok, not as good as the original. Pretty graphics though.

I am looking forward to the next day of defeat.

I don't like it either, but it appeals to many however.

OMG, stop the flaming. It's just his opinion. The point is that he was probably told to download the demo cause the game was supposed to be so awsome, typical of HL2 fanboys, that we he finally did and played it, he didn't like it. So he posted his opinion here, maybe to see if anyone else felt that way. Many reasons.

- check my sig, i'm getting great fps w/ 1280x1024 4aa/8af in farcry, same as doom3, and many other games
- Used to be an avid console gamer, but they suck. That's why i'm in the pc
- I like FPS games, I play RTCW:ET quite alot. Come to that realm, your ass is mine
- Racing game, hah, they are ok.

i liked it, and i also enjoyed playing CS:S and when it comes out DoD.

different flavors for different people i guess:

to the op : 1) valve has acknowledges (a bit hesitantly :p ) that steam was a disaster. They have tried to 'fix' it, i dont know if it's any better currently. Also : ravenholm section? gah, almost every other part of the game was better :) It honestly wasn't a bad game. I didn't feel like shooting someone because i had paid for it *shrugs*. cheers.

Meh... that's fine if you didn't like HL2... but please don't tell me you found Halo 2 entertaining. >_<

And yes, even though the game was pretty mediocre (I barely replay it as it is), I got my DoD:S, CS:S, and I am oh so happy.
