Apparently it's close to production ready at this point.

6.6L Duramax V8, 395hp/700lb-ft in standard trim, with an available track pack which boosts output to 660hp/1050lb-ft.

I wonder what tranny they ended up using. 700lbft isn't too gentle, not only on the rear tires, but also the trans components, at higher gear shifts.
And that brings us to the next question: Weight.
At that price, I don't see a carbon monocoque happening, and with that big, heavy Duramax and transmission, and the suspension to bear it, that thing will probably approach the weight of an SUV.
I suppose as a cruising GT, it'll be mostly fine, if they can get the engine quiet enough at highway speeds. On backroads, al that weight is going to be very present.

Arguably even more impressive than the performance numbers is the fact that the British manufacturer claims that while driving at a constant 48 km/h (30mph) the car can return 108 mpg.
This means that thanks to the massive 84-litre (22.19 gallons) fuel tank, the Iceni could cover over 3,200 km (1988.38 miles) to a tank.

So, no stopping or driving over 30mph? Riiiight... :rolleyes: Get back to me when they tell us what the fuel economy really is.

Made possible by idling with no throttle input in the highest gear. At least that is what I think it is.

IIRC the "real" fuel economy is something like ~50 mpg. The car only turns 980RPM at 70 mph. The company claims 70 mpg on the UK cycle, so if we convert to the US standards and take off a bit more on top of that, it'd get about 50 mpg on the highway.

Trident says the Iceni gets 70 miles per gallon using the U.K.’s fuel economy measurements. That equates to around 58 miles per gallon by U.S. standards.

Why? It's the same concept as the original Shelby Cobra (huge engine in a small car), except with better MPG.

Simple math says 22 x 108 does not equal 2000. So why did they say over 1988 miles? I don't get it. They could have said over 2200....
84 liters is 18.47 imperial gallons. 108 miles per imperial gallon gives us a range of 0.01068 light-seconds.

That's pretty good but only 10mpg better than my $28,000 Camry Hybrid XLE which takes regular unleaded.

Yes, but your Camry doesn't do 0-60 in <4 seconds.

Of course we can compare apples and oranges all day, but if you think about high performance cars which also get good MPG, there really aren't that many out there.

If their torque output is double their horsepower...yes.

Peugeot 908 HDi: 700HP, 900 lb-ft torque
Audi R10 TDI: 650HP, 811 lb-ft torque
Audi R15 TDI: 600HP, 775 lb-ft torque
Audi R18 TDI: 510hp, 630 lb-ft torque

Iceni with the track pack: 660HP, 1050 lb-ft torque

Iceni looks pretty good to me.

Those ratios are a lot better than 395/700, though. What kind of restrictions do those cars have? Is it hp-based? Displacement-based? Ect?

In a sports car, it just seems like you would end up with unusable torque at lower speeds and a lack of pull at higher speeds. 550/550 would trounce a car with 400/700, methinks.

How much does that gearbox weigh, and how often is it swapped out? :D
Torque like to eat trans. Though I suppose a decently integrated ECU/auto where the engine get restricted to managable torque in low gears and on shifts could make this borderline drivable. Still gonna be a truck gearbox in a "sports car"...
