I am not condoning smoking but I once drove from NYC to D.C (about 3 hours) on 20 minutes of sleep (took a nap then jumped in my car). I was zoning out on the road so I smoked some of my pal's ciggarettes... it was much more powerful than coffee and I was alert and kicking.

I started smoking when I worked my overnight shifts a couple of jobs ago (several years back). They DEFINATLY were good at keeping me awake, however, I wish I never got into that terrible habit.

I don't drink "energy drinks" as I have a problem paying over $1 for a little 8oz drink that will not quench my thirst or get me drunk. I usually just drink 2 liters of mountain dew and a pot or two of coffee when I'm really sleepy and want to stay awake.

If the caffeine doesn't keep you up, running to the bathroom to pee every 15 minutes will....
