Tricking install.exe

I was wondering how to get a program to install on the drive I want it to install on when it is hardcoded to install to a specific drive.

I had a program 10 to 15 years ago that would do this but can't seem to find one now. The program let me fool the installing program into thinking it was installing to the drive it was hardcoded to install to.

unless the installation file is entirely custom written.. there's usually an automation script and option that forces the files to be installed to a specific folder without option.
